5 Wizard of Oz Stars
I am taking part in a 12 month challenge and this month is a classic. I am not much for the classic’s to be honest and that’s fine to each there own.
So I went browsing Audible’s Classic’s and came across this one.
I too like a lot of people have very short story books, seen the movie even seen theater plays of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. But I have never read a full length book. So I thought why not.
I very much enjoyed how the wizard was different for each character. He is as I always thought of him as.
I think my favorite part was when they were reunited again, the tin woodsmen was crying Dorothy had to wipe his tears as to not let his joints rust again. But as well as the lion he was wiping his tears away with the tip of his tail and he had to hold out his tail in the sun to let it dry. Still even just typing that made me chuckle.
And finally I just enjoyed this book here is a snippet of what a favorite as well. Too cute this;
“Why are those needles and pins sticking out of your head?” – Tin Woodsmen
“That is proof that he is sharp.” – Lion
And finally Anne does an incredible job bringing this story to life. It’s a must have to be sure.
*All my Reviews are 100% honest and my own.*

Very strange to think that this little thing is the first in a line of dominos that ends with people really holding space for the lyrics to defying gravity. Wicked expands on many of the very strange concepts of the original but it’s easy to forget that latent lesbian subtext also originates with L Frank Baum having Dorothy flirt with half the girls in Oz.
I hadn’t read this since I was like 10 and I don’t think I realized at the time how surprisingly bland the prose is. It does invite the reader to let the imagination take over, and the movie departs enough from the book that it doesn’t replace the imagery, which is nice.
One could read almost anything into the politics of this story, it’s wild.
