Anne Hathaway was an awesome narrator!! She did so well that it surprised me. The book is sooo different than the movie. I don't know why I'm surprised but I just figured that back then they would've stayed more true to the story than they do now. This was a short audio, just under 4 hours, and the kindle with audio upgrade was completely free. I highly suggest getting it!

For a children's book published in 1900, it's pretty darn good: creative, adventurous though pretty tame. Baum's intro indicates he was trying to address the shortcomings of Grimm-style fairytales as the default stories for kids, and Oz succeeds on that score. I missed the time window to have read it to my kids, but I can see how it would be enjoyable for kids in the 4- to 8-year-old range. Brooke Shields does a nice job as the narrator of this audio edition.
lighthearted
thank you L. Frank Baum for writing this book so that we can enjoy gay witches doing musical theater a hundred years later
