The writing was good and I did like the premise. I could also see that the author was trying to acknowledge the reality of the regency world and how people made money but I think it was a bit clumsy. It all wrapped up very quickly and honestly the hero could have groveled more

*flails*
I thought I'd have issues with this one. The circumstances around the premise are the sort that make me very uncomfortable (cheating/forced single parenting/wrongly accused of a crime). But I thoroughly enjoyed this book. St. John won me over, though I did want to *shake him* several times. Sarah was a delight and to be honest, too good for the world to deserve. Very much looking forward to the next book!

Predictable, and not in a fun, familiar way. It was a matter of telling, not showing, which makes it impossible to truly engage with.

Great writing, just could not get on board with the rest of this book. 2 stars.

I'm writing this like a week later so clearly not got the greatest memories of names from this one, but just skimming through the synopsis and the book now, oooh it's all coming back to me now! Ok, so this one is about a woman who is forced to exile herself to a small village because she's wrongly accused of stealing her husband's family jewels and is caught in a compromising position at a ball. Her husband finds this letter and realises she's not dead, as everyone seems to think, and goes to get her back? I'm not too sure, the premise is pretty flimsy. It feels like a really immature move on his part to uproot his life to go after a woman who's already ruined and exiled, just to take his revenge?

I loved that it was slightly unconventional, I don't think it's a spoiler to talk about the fact that the main protagonist has a daughter, and this really adds to her relationship with her estranged husband, and made for some of the best moments in the novel. But honestly, I just really didn't like the main male lead, and his own position doesn't make him blameless for the shambles their marriage was at the beginning, being all cold and aloof from the start. I really didn't like him.

Honestly, the 2, pushing to 2.5 stars is mostly because the writing was pretty dang great and I liked the female lead, it's a shame about the romance and the guy.

Three stars because the hero insisted on being a d-b long past when he had proof he was wrong. I have no problem with asshole heroes, as long as there is a glimmer of redemption or remorse. This fellow just trundled along in his self-pitying murk of woe, if that's even a thing, from start to finish.
