Oh man, yet another book I should have loved from the blurb but fell flat when I read it.
I had high hopes for “Lucky” - that it would be similar to my one of my favourite shows “Hustle” with crazy clever techniques honed to manipulate people and a focus on those who deserve to be conned …you know, that whole “you can’t con an honest man” philosophy.
The book started off well and the concept is an intriguing one - what do you do when you win the lottery when you are on the run from the law? But soon I just found the whole thing depressing when it was one betrayal after another. Lucky as a character is so frustrating - you would have thought she would be this bad ass inspiring character but she is far from it. Lucky? Sure because she gets carried by every other character along the way, passively floating through the whole experience. It was implausible. The ending was really rushed
It’s not a book I would recommend, but it will certainly make for a interesting discussion at book club.

2.5/5 while I did enjoy this book, it is a quick and engaging read, I think it could have been a lot better if the components of the plot had been presented in a different way. the end felt very rushed and unnecessarily convoluted. I did really like Lucky as a character, I was rooting for her! there is a lot of potential with her story but I think it could have been presented in a better way, for example by telling parts of her backstory in a non-chronological order or introducing a certain character earlier in the book, which would have made this a superb read.

For a “con woman” she is ridiculously naive. All I got from this silly book.
