Solid 3.5 stars. It was a quick read about a 26-year-old on the run, dealing with the con artist life her father had forced her into while growing up. I would have liked to explore her inner dialog a bit more because she was obviously wrestling with some guilt and struggling to find her identity, but the book mostly focused on her quest to find her mother.

Not great, not terrible. Super quick read. Didn’t think the story was all that convincing or memorable.
an easy read a fun plot and story, i just was not really that into it. i decided to stray from my usual, more mature writing styles to read a fun story but it just wasn’t for me.
quick (read it in 5 hours) & fun story that reads like a limited tv series!! while it had some predictable moments, overall the plot kept me on my toes and i was very engaged the entire time!
Above all else, this book is a FUN read. At just about 250 pages Lucky is quick, fast-paced and exciting — I completely devoured this con artist’s story of deception, love, and self discovery.
In Lucky, we follow the main character Luciana, “Lucky” through alternating dual timelines. About every other chapter, we get to explore how Lucky became the person and con artist she is today with flashbacks of her life on the road running scams with her single father. In the other chapters, we get to learn about adult Lucky in the present day. Although her dad is now in jail, Lucky has continued scamming people with her boyfriend Cary, but when he disappears with their millions, Lucky is left broke and hopeless. She buys a winning lottery ticket that could be her way out of a life of crime — the only problem is she can’t cash it in because she’s wanted by the police for her most recent scheme.
I felt like the dual timeline in this book worked incredibly well. Lucky desperately wants to break out of the con artist lifestyle, but because of how she was raised she doesn’t know any other way to live. The backstory made it easy to like Lucky despite her lies and deception. My biggest complaint with this book would be the ending, as the conclusion seemed rushed into just a few pages for such a lengthy buildup before. The ending didn’t necessarily leave me with questions, but I wanted to know more about how it happened and I would’ve loved a more descriptive climax scene.
I’ve been seeing a lot of books about con artists, scams, etc. come out recently and I am absolutely loving this theme. To me, books like Lucky are exciting and fun to read, and I thought this one was particularly well done!

This book was fine to me, but nothing special. I didn’t find the main character very likable, so it made it hard for me to root for her and be invested in her story.
