I enjoyed every second of this grifter coming of age story featuring Lucky and her adventures conning people with her Dad. Told in alternating timelines from her past and present we get to know Lucky as she tries to learn about her mother and figure out how to claim the winning lottery ticket she bought without ending up in jail. Fast-paced and full of twists. I'm also so thrilled for Marissa Stapley to have been chosen as the first Canadian author to have a book selected for Reese Witherspoon's book club too! This one was great on audio narrated by one of my favs, Soneela Nankani! Highly recommend!
I'll give this book credit for being short and a quick read, but that's all. The writing and dialog was mechanical and unbelievable. The main female character was weak. She was portrayed as growing up a con person but yet she came off as lacking street smarts and naïve. The cons were unimaginative and the ending a disappointment.
3.5/5⭐️rounded up.
This was an interesting story about a young woman who grew up as a con artist. I like how the story was written by each chapter going back and forth between her childhood and modern times. This book made me think about the nature vs nurture topic and how it impacts our lives. This was an overall good read however some parts of the book felt a bit rushed, kinda brushed over and unnecessary to the plot line.

I found the main character very unlikeable. I finished but just didn’t care at all about the outcome.
i was surprised at how much i just couldn’t get into this book. it was well written and overall a fine book. it just isn’t my kind of book if that makes sense
I wouldn’t call it thrilling; but perhaps a bit predictable with a lot of coincidences - but nice light read
The middle was too slow and it was too predictable
I really enjoyed this book!! It was a pretty easy read, but quite captivating. I didn’t want to stop reading for the night; I truly wanted to know what happened next.
This was a shorter read and my my normal thriller genre but it was fun!! You couldn’t help but root for Lucky, the con artist who had a ‘good’ streak to her. She really wanted to change, but luck was never on her side. It’s told in two POV, one as she is growing up and the other as she is on the run. You take this journey with her and feel invested. The end is just the best, which I will not give away. Overall a solid read.
I started out really enjoying the premise and the suspense of each of Lucky's cons, but ended up being slightly disappointed by this book in the end. I liked the combination of present day Lucky with the stories of her childhood, growing up with a con expert father. While the book was an enjoyable wild ride at times, the ending felt wildly rushed and even a little confusing.
