Lucky is a con-artist who had just pulled off a huge heist with her boyfriend when he disappears and she realizes there’s a warrant out for her arrest. She then finds out she has a winning lottery ticket, but how does she cash it in without getting arrested?

This was a very unique story that was really compelling. Despite Lucky being a con-artist, I found myself rooting for her and even feeling sorry for her at times. I enjoyed that this went between present-day and Lucky’s childhood so we could really see her journey and what led her to become the person she is.
This one was a quick read that I ended up finishing in a day.

Thank you to Simon and Schuster and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

This was a fun little read.

While part one was an easy read that kept me interested, part two ruined the book. It was rushed and everyone got their Hollywood ending. It seemed to imply that there are no consequences for some people’s behaviors. That one can just turn a blind eye at things and it’s ok because they had been handed a tough break from the start. It felt unfinished.

Quick, easy read that is enjoyable enough. Nothing too surprising, and wraps up almost too neatly.

Disclosure: I won a copy of this book through a Stars & Stripes giveaway. Many thanks.

This was a quick and entertaining read that kept me turning the pages so I could find out what happens next. The conclusion felt a but rushed, and a few scenes seemed somewhat unrealistic, but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless. Solid 4 stars.

Pretty well-told story about a likeable grifter who is also victimized. Is redemption possible for our anti-hero?

A Miniature Poodle is lying on a fluffy blanket with a softcover book to her right. The book is Lucky by Marissa Stapley.

This is a captivating tale of a young woman's journey towards redemption and self-discovery. The story is a gripping mix of crime, love, family, and personal growth that keeps the reader engaged until the very end. Lucky Armstrong is a relatable protagonist, a tough but vulnerable character who finds herself in a predicament when a lottery ticket she buys turns out to be worth millions. The book explores her struggles to come to terms with her past, reconcile with her father, and find her mother, all while avoiding capture for her crimes. The themes of personal redemption and the complexity of being good are explored in a thought-provoking manner. Overall, LUCKY is a well-crafted novel that showcases Ms. Stapley's talent as a writer. It is a compelling story that will appeal to anyone who enjoys a good crime thriller with a strong emotional core.

I really enjoyed the layout of this book. The chapters are short so they are easy to read a few at a time. Each chapter goes back and forth between present and past which is always entertaining when a book is written in a way that is not linear. My only qualm is when a book is wrapped up in a near bow so quickly in the end. I enjoyed reading the book more leading up to the end than the end itself. But it was still a great read all in all.
