i feel like she should’ve made better decisions in regards to her “dad” and her boyfriend? feel like she would’ve been smarter w that but the story was entertaining enough i guess
To jog my memory later...
Book switches between two timelines.
Lucky was a baby abandoned on church stairs. She was picked up by a con artist walking by who used her to run cons for her entire childhood. She ends up living on a boat with her dad who gets reeled into a large criminal ring for a woman named Priscilla. He ends up going to jail for the work he did for Priscilla.
Lucky falls in love with Priscilla's son Carey and the two of them run a con on people's investment accounts. They are supposed to run away to an island but his mom can't let him stop conning.
In the meantime lucky happened to a buy a multi-million dollar winning lottery ticket but she can't turn it in because she's on the run for the con she ran with her boyfriend.
The book ends up tying up in a neat bow. Turns out her birth mom is a powerful district attorney in New York. She gets Priscilla on tape admitting to all of her crimes. Her dad has just been released from prison. She's able to turn in the lottery ticket to pay back everyone she stole from in the investment scheme.
Quick easy read. The book wrapped up way too quickly. Part 1 is 4/5 of the book.
- never circles back to the story of the nun who was hiding out from past mistakes who let the con man take the baby, But then met the birth mom and stayed in touch with her
- never circles back to Stephanie the one friend lucky made in her childhood. She goes to see her as an adult dress as someone else but there's no resolution to that story

I was really intrigued by this after seeing it as a Reese’s December pick.
Lucky is a con artist who gets stiffed by her boyfriend in Vegas. She wakes up realizing she’s wanted for her crimes, has no money but fortunately has a winning lottery ticket that she’s unable to cash because she’ll be caught!
Lucky is a quick read full of twists and turns. I could easily see this being a Netflix show or movie if Hollywood needs more source material.

The book Lucky is a fast paced and entertaining story about a con woman who gets swept up in some real mess. She's not your typical con artist tho, with evil intentions, so that makes this story more interesting and relatable. I really liked the chapters about her childhood.

Seems like the author tried to hard to tie the ending up in a pretty bow, but it made it implausible and a bit boring.
