Although I loved the spice of it all, I did not enjoy how half the plot took place while she was a child to teen.
It took me out of the plot. Once we got to him getting out of prison, that were this plot hit for me. I throughly enjoyed the possessiveness that Dmitry exuded and how he went about making sure he got things his way.
I was definitely a fun read in the second half and I would read it again.

I love this series and Jenika Snow...and these tropes?! So this should have been a homerun for me, but I found it to fall a bit flat. All the makings a JS story that I'd ravenously consumed...but just not my favorite. Fortunately it's super bingeable, and a fast read- but certainly not the best of the series.
The tropes are all here, the background delicious, SO MUCH of the architecture is just perfect. But I felt like the story never really went anywhere- we spend way too much time in the past, too much focus on characters' whose stories we've already heard (at times it felt more like a bonus story than their own), and the chemistry never evolved in the way I thirsted for- never deepened from the forbidden lusty steam to something some substantial. The dimension and layers I find in my most favorite of Jenika's smuttfests wasn't here, and perhaps because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the premise, my super heightened expectations made something solid feel lukewarm, too. Because I wanted so badly to be obsessed since everything I adore is part of the set-up. Still love this series, though, and excited to see what Jenika creates next.

Little Bird is book 4 in The Underworld Kings series, however it is actually the first book in the series I have read. I'm glad that even though it is an interconnected series, I didn't feel I had missed anything by not reading the previous books (though I will be reading them).
It is also the first full length book by Jenika I have read as previously I have only read her novellas or books under 250 pages.
I was hooked from page 1.
The prologue is set in the present when Claudia is 20 and Dmitry is 35.
Then the first part of the book is set in the past and we get to read about Claudia's first meeting with Dmitry and her early budding feelings and obsession with him.
We also get to read the letters she sent to him over the course of the 5 years he was in jail. She had to stop writing to him when her brother Gio was feeling pressured to arrange a marriage for her and the only way he felt he could protect her was to temporarily place her in a convent.
Then we move to the present and Dmitry is out of jail and ready to claim his Little Bird. This is where the slow burn stops and goes full speed.
Dmitry has been obsessing about Claudia for the last two years. Ever since she turned 18 and started sending him pictures of her (innocent & demure). He made sure his security was watching her at all times and making sure no-one got close to her. By the time he gets out of jail he knows her whole daily routines.
What I love about Claudia is she is not afraid to stand up for herself, with both Dmitry and her brother Gio.
And what I love about Dmitry is that even though he is intense, cold, unforgiving and absolutely deadly with anyone he thinks is an enemy, he is so loving to Claudia and his family and will do anything to make sure they are safe and protected.
After the ending of Little Bird, I can't wait to read Gio & Tatiana's story.

Little Bird was a complete surprise for me and what a brilliant surprise it has been❤️❤️❤️ I have heard about it on one of the reader groups on fb and decided to jump in with both feet and boy, am I glad! Dmitry certainly has stolen my heart with his big heart, his protectiveness and his dirty dirty mouth. He is definitely a daddy in spirit and he found his soulmate in Claudia. This was an epic, age-gap bratva romance that got me downloading all the previous books in the series as soon as I was done with Little Bird. Definitely a re-read for me❤️
