woah woah woah... this book right here is the ultimate roller coaster. So many ups and downs and you get so invested in each and every character. I found myself loving & hating Sadie. Then i found myself loving and hating her husband Nathan. Then i found myself loving and hating her neighbor Finn. It was just so crazy and intense and gave me so many feels. Absolutely enraptured from beginning to end. Amazing read!

"Space. That's something I'll never give you too much of. Promise me the same."

Slip of the Tongue is a beautifully written story about a devoted wife who finds comfort in her new neighbor after her husband suddenly and inexplicably becomes distant.
The characterization in this book blew me away. It's authentic. We get to see enough of each characters' history to fully understand their personalities, making their decisions and actions that much more believable ... even if those decisions make us mumble angrily at our tablet screens as our hearts seize up, shred apart, then mend several times over. (You'll see)
Thanks so much for that Jessica Hawkins. ;)
"People are just layers upon layers, some permeable, some impenetrable."

Let's face it, cheating/adultery is dreaded in reality and sometimes in fiction. We all know it happens, though, even to the "perfect" couples. This book is the ultimate example of that. It's not contrived or far-fetched. It paints a very plausible situation that goes beyond the typical lust-driven reasons, and that's why it reaches inside and really twists you up.
That's also what makes it fantastic.
"He'll regret pushing you away, though, when he realizes I'm here, waiting to catch you."
I really enjoyed it!

I could not put this book down. I started it this afternoon at around 3:30pm and I finished it by 11pm. The only thing that kept me from giving this book five stars was the fact that I didn't find the main character that likeable.... Like I understood why her husband checked out on her and didn't blame him. I very much so liked her husband more than I liked her. So I didn't really connect with this character, which is why this is four stars instead of five.
I quite liked the writing style and the setting was great, I would have liked an epilogue perhaps with a baby, I think that would have made me happier as a reader, the ending felt a bit rushed right at the end. Overall I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have cheating as a trigger.

FIVE AMAZING STARS!!!!

"I want it. I want to explode into a million pieces and when it’s over, I want him to sweep me up like shards of glass and put me back together."

Wow! That alone should make you want to go and read Slip of the Tongue! Just Beautiful!

I don't even know where to start with this book!  Okay 1st let me just start by saying this:  I FREAKING LOVED IT!!  Jessica Hawkins takes us on a heart-wrenching journey of forbidden attraction, secrets, and HOT sex that will keep you on the edge of you seat and have you choosing sides up until the VERY…  LAST... PAGE!

Sadie and Nathan have had the perfect marriage for 7 years.  All of a sudden, Nathan starts finding more ways to stay away from home and… Sadie.  Nathans cut off sex and communication with Sadie. In walks this sexy next door neighbor, Flinn,  who is willing to give Sadie everything she isn't getting from Nathan and more. Now Sadie is stuck in the middle of a love triangle that threatens to rip all three of their lives apart. She knows she has to choose but does she stay with the man who has become so cold and distant and unwilling to fight for their marriage or choose the man who is willing to throw it all away to be with her?

I was a little wary of this book when it was chosen as our Author/blogger book club pick of the month. It didn't really seem up my alley. This just goes to show that books can surprise you every once in a while. I can only thank DJ from Books and Bindings for putting this on our list. I would have miss out on a great read.

I never thought I would adore a book where I wanted to beat the main character over the head with a shovel. I could not stand Sadie. She was selfish, immature, and a horrible wife. It's rare that I feel so much raw emotion towards a book, but this one certainly pulled it out of me. I was furious throughout most of the book. Everything she did made me verbally say 'Wtf is this woman thinking?" to the point of forgetting they were fictional characters. During the last 20% of the book, I poured myself two glasses of wine because I could feel the tension seeping through the pages.

If I had to pick a part that I didn't enjoy, I don't think I could. I'm not sure if I was meant to dislike Sadie, but I did; I just think her human nature was raw and dirty (like a scene in the book haha). It showed the perfect amount of reality for you to have those irrational feelings towards a fictional character. Jessica Hawkins can unquestionably write human emotions, and she has earned herself a fan with 'Slip of the Tongue.' I can't wait to read more from her.

This book was so pointless. I hate not finishing books which is the only reason why I even read the whole thing. I'm Team Nathan though

I actually enjoyed this book, even based on some of the reviews. The Angst between husband and wife was really good. I didn't think his reason for shutting her out were stupid at all. It all boiled down to communication.

But yes the ending could have used alittle more messiness so some pointed out it wrapped up to neatly. I don't disagree with ending, just was going for alittle more fight.

description

"I wish Nathan would knock on the door. Drag me home. Put his own arms around me. Make love to me. Remembering his vows has made me warm inside, fuzzy."

First of all I LOVE the cover a lot! I visited NYC for the first time in 2014 and fell in love with the city! So I was pretty excited that this story took place there. This book is about Sadie who is happily married and then she isn't. Her husband Nathan has been distant and cold towards her for two months now and Sadie has no clue why. During this time a new guy moves in next door: Finn. He pays attention to her and wants to hang out. Sadie is craving warmth and companionship. It's like Nathan just doesn't have any time for her and ignores her. He is indifferent to her. Finn is the exact opposite!

"In so little time, you've lit up my world like the sun. And you've warmed me just the same."

I don't want to go in too much detail because I don't want to spoil it but let me tell you I was going back and forth between Nathan and Finn. I didn't know who she would end up with and who I actually wanted her to end up with. Jessica really wrote a beautiful story were you kind of root for all the characters, because they aren't bad people. They make bad decisions but who doesn't?

There was a couple of times I wanted to wring Nathan's neck. I just wanted him to open his mouth and tell Sadie what was going on. The same goes for Sadie, there were a couple of things she could've handled differently. Overall I really enjoyed this story a lot, the writing was really good and there wasn't a moment I got bored. It had a steady pace and just enough drama to keep me going. I am looking forward to reading more books by Jessica! Before I forget the sex scenes were PHENOMENAL, they were pretty steamy and I really enjoyed reading them.

I loved this book very much that I had to miss college lol. But it was so worth it. The characters were really different and unique. Some points in the book made me a bit easy but when I opened my heart and understood them. it was easy to understand why they choose that. I was frustrated, happy, angry and confused throughout the book . I really wanted to know what was happening. I wanted to know so much! I was hurting as the characters were. It really refreshing to read about characters who have flaws, weakness and make mistakes. This doesn't excuses anything but it shows we are not perfect, we are humans and we end up doing what we never want to do. It's really hard to let yourself go and get into a characters who has flaws.

But, read this book! I highly recommend it :)
