The illustrations are gorgeous, but the stories themselves have been watered down and changed from the known lore of Greek mythology to be more "family friendly." It could be a good primer book, but if you have an interest in Greek mythology then by no means let this be your only source. You should never go with a single source when studying mythology, anyway.
This may be my favorite children's treasury of Greek Mythology to date. It has really cool illustrations, the stories are told in an interesting manor and are easy to understand, and at the back it even has a guide to the stars and constellations.

I absolutely love these books, and this one was everything I could have hoped for. Greek mythology is my favourite, and reading classic stories with unique and beautiful artwork simply made my day. The stories flowed beautifully, and the author did not shy away from the cruel nature of the gods and heroes. She even added in a few instances of sarcasm and wit to lighten the tales.
The book is gorgeously designed and I was truly stunned by many of the images. There is little more that I can say about this book that hasn't been said before. It truly is a treasure and while I've read all these stories before, it was a joy to rediscover them.

The myths were whatever I like different version (and there is not a set canon), but the storytelling was a no... I mean when you call Zeus impregnating Danae, who is a prisoner in a tower beacuse her father is scared of a prophecy about her having children, making her happy, you lost me. Like what the actual hell? And there were more instances where I was like why the hell are you glorifying or bashing certain actions, some weird choices there.
Excellent reader, Christina Balit did a wonderful job. The stories were well told and enjoyable. I liked how Donna Jo Napoli got into the mind and feeling of the separate gods and goddesses, more than just putting forth the action of the myths. Mostly family friendly, as the violence, while inherent, is never described in full gory, and all sexual encounters are described as "marriages". More than one per god and sometimes goddess, of course, but always implied to be consensual.
While I often enjoy listening to especially non fiction , and the reader did a marvelous job, I do expect I would have enjoyed pictures to go along with, as it looks like I missed out on a very colorful print book.

Overall a decent intro to Greek mythology, but it had a few variations I hadn't read before. Great artwork.
