Michelle Obama shares her life story with exactly the grace, poise, and dignity I have come to expect from her. I listened to this book on Audible and loved how she narrated it in such a way that made it feel like she was chatting with me. She handled even difficult topics like the 2016 election with honesty but class, as well, refusing to be sucked into the negativity. This was a great listen.

I enjoyed learning about her life and the journey she has taken. She let out some very human moments that were relatable. By the same token, there were also so many moments that only a first lady would be really able to understand but she made them so accessible for her readers.
I appreciated the lines "I'm not raising babies. I'm raising adults." "If I'm not talking to you, maybe I'll need to find another guy who will listen." and the story of when the White House was lit up for gay marriage.
I loved this memoir. I'm glad I read the preface because it set the tone for the story and typically, that is not something I would be very interested in.

4.25 ⭐️ Very good autobiography! I think these books tend to be quite slow and I did have difficulty staying engaged at times. That being said, she has a very interesting and unique perspective that is absolutely worth reading.

Unfortunately, finishing this book in mid-2024 made me upset because it made me miss when both presidential candidates were kind, educated, and overall sound people. Reading about how hard the Obamas worked and how passionate they were for a better country made me SO frustrated with how easy it was for You Know Who to come in and have no respect for the systems in place or what they did to help young people, minorities, low income, etc. This book did emphasize the corruption in Washington that has only been made worse since their terms ended. They made a huge sacrifice with their 8 years in office and it feels like a slap on the face after 2016.

Michelle was very kind and honest in her book. I listened to the second half on audiobook which I would recommend as she was the narrator. I hope we get this legitimate passion for a better country in every candidate moving forward.

full disclosure, i forgot i was listening to this for a couple months (nothing to do with the book and everything to do with the fact that audible is the BANE of my existence). awfully long (19hr!) but really fascinating to get an inside look into presidential campaigns and the life of a First Lady

This book lost me at times, I think it could have been shorter. It was really cool to hear about Michelle’s take on the White house
