I don't know if I've ever read a book where the pacing is quite so bad. Truly yelling "just do it already" to everyone in the book: the antagonist included. It's a shame because the prologue was very creepy and I love indigenous folklore; the beginning sucked me in to what became a hostage situation by the end.
I feel obligated to say something nice about it now, so I will say the body horror and tension was pretty good. It just never fully paid off.

The characters felt a bit flat, the horror became a bit monotonous, and I didn’t really buy into the ending. It’s a really cool idea with a super spooky beginning that didn’t work out for me as well as I’d hoped.

it was nice to see the changes from the original reddit story made in this novel! it made the ending much more satisfying and also terrifying. the dialogue was sometimes cheesy, and i wish some motivations of the characters were revealed earlier so i would know why they’re acting a certain way, but overall i was just as scared as the first time!
