Great read!
The whole book was one long, terrifying and extremely believable story for the most part. Stuff started happening right from the beginning and just went on through the whole book which I liked.

This started out fairly promising I guess, but it kept getting worse the further I got. Found myself genuinely frustrated pretty early (and only finished cuz of hate-reading, im ngl)
The main characters are annoying and the plot starts falling flat – it was also unnecessarily long and kept dragging on. The only interesting characters were the indigenous characters, who the author also happens to kills off in a way that, to me, seemed pretty pointless with the flat ending.
The portion at the end where the author justifies writing about indigenous folklore and characters despite being non-native himself to shed light on colonization also felt a bit tragicomic. Given he kills off the indigenous characters and pretty much picks-and-chooses folklore elements to use.

I posted more about how I felt on Goodreads. Its scary, but I think the intent, as good natured as it was, was not executed well. It makes a point to say something about white colonization profiting off of the identity of natives, yet it does the same by using vague native folklore and killing all the indigenous characters to leave all the white ones alive and untouched. Theres better indigenous folklore horror novels.
