I accidentally read The Church Beneath the Roots before Stolen Tongues because I didn’t realize the two were related. After now having read both, I think I did enjoy Stolen Tongues a bit more.
Stolen Tongues felt more mysterious to me as we were left without many answers whereas The Church Beneath the Roots gives the readers that explanation that we would be looking for.
As with The Church Beneath the Roots, this book was atmospheric and unsettling. I don’t want to spoil any parts of the story because I think it would ruin the scare factor, but if my partner started doing any of the things that Felix’s wife Faye was doing, I think I would pack up my things and leave! Love you deeply, but maybe not that much haha!
Again, I have such a weakness for spooky books taking place in the secluded woods. Definitely an entertaining and spooky read.

I love when a horror book feels like a spooky story told around a campfire. It could’ve been shorter and more thought out, but I still really enjoyed it, actually got chills a couple times.
Actually down right terrifying. Maybe because I was listening to the audiobook but I was SCARED. Even now there's some scenes that make me shudder. I was listening to this on a walk with my parents and even with them there I was flinching and glancing around.
Then later I was doing my laundry in the basement and had a nasheed blasting. On a happier note, the author was inspired by his fiancée and at times it actually felt like a love letter to her
Another thing, so that creepy figure, it's a monster sure, but is it really evil? Is a wolf evil because it eats deers? I really loved the ending.

Sooooo I'm so annoyingly frustrated at this book lol. It started so well the pacing was great I enjoyed our main characters narrative voice and the audio book narrator was good too. The first 3 parts of this book were great kept my interest and had me intrigued with the story. We're following this married couple who are on a getaway at a cabin when the wife starts to hear strange whispers and starts seeing things. Soon the husband starts to see and hear things as well and the story evolves from there trying to discover who or what may be lurking about and why. It's horror more suspense paranormal horror with some native American lore explored as well. Again it had such promise but when I tell u that ending sputtered on in with a severely underwhelming stop. Like if I had balls they'd be blue. And while I appreciate the authors note as he recounts his reasonings for some plot and character choices and divulges his background and research he did to craft this story it was not enough to make me love this. It's a 2.5 but ill round to 3.

Absolutely loved this book!! This was amazing. I think I need to read it again. Because if I read the physical book it may be a 5 star book.
