Really enjoyed it but I think the ending was a bit too much.
Done with Prisoner of Azkaban. Goblet of Fire, I'm coming for you next!!

This is so easily the best in the series, and even though I haven't read all of the books yet, I have a feeling this is the peak. So many good moments here, from the writing to the story, and the attention to detail. I loved it so much, now I need to rewatch the movie cause man reading this had me itching to see it.
Slightly better than the previous installment.
While it offers up some touching and powerful moments, The Prisoner of Azkaban still suffers from the whole "let's magic away all our problems" situation.
Now, the way Harry and Hermione solve the problems at the end is foreshadowed a bit more throughout the book, and really it's done in a very clever way, but these books always wrap up a little too tidily for my taste. It seems as though, no matter how dire the situation seems, there's nothing a little magic can't handle. I mean, don't the bad guys have access to powerful magic too?? It seems like only the kids get the cool toys.
I know I'm being a bit harsh, since it is a kid's book and all, but you'd think Snape would have loads of trinkets hidden away that are at least as powerful as the invisibility cloak...

This is it. This is the antidote to long, boring road trips with children. My boys are wonderful and brilliant, but oh boy do their lack of attention spans test my patience while hurtling at 85 MPH down a desert freeway. How are they bored 3 minutes after leaving the house? How can a creature the size of a large cat each an entire bag of Cheez-Its and wash it down with--apparently--all the water in the Mojave Desert in the time it takes me to drive from Las Vegas to St. George? I'll never know. But I do know that the antidote to all of this is a Harry Potter book.
My sons went from loudly belting "Into the Unknown" and making soap-proof handprints on the car windows to listening quietly and staring out the window. They were lulled into a catatonic state of imagination by JK Rowling's masterpiece novel and Jim Dale's excellent narration. Even my wife and I were thrown headlong into the fantastical world of Hogwarts. The magic of the story is alluring.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is, admittedly, my favorite Harry Potter book. I hadn't read it in years, but the plot and characters welcomed me back with open arms. I've read Prisoner of Azbakan at least eight times over the course of my life, but this time I noticed all the foreshadowing Rowling included in the first half of the story. She is quite good at it. I also appreciate her ability to take minor plot points from earlier books and weave them into the story as if she had always meant to include them.
The characters are well-done and the plot twists are excellent. I have no complaints about this superb novel; it holds up well 24 years after its publication.

MY OH MY OH MY. This book is where Harry Potter starts to take a darker turn. While all the typical wizarding accoutrements are still present, we now have the additions of dementors, Azkaban (more properly than in Chamber,) criminals, turncoats, and death. Hermione Grainger would have received nothing but my deepest ire for how much she studies, but the way it was incorporated throughout the book so as to eventually reveal the time-turner? Brilliant. Between the Marauders Map, the Invisibility Cloak, or a Time-Turner, I am starting to become worried at the amount of magical items I would gladly do many questionable and unseemly acts to obtain. I think, however, I'm most saddened that Honeyduke's isn't a real place. I really would love to experience the sensation of a Fizzing Whizzbee; heck, I'd take treacle fudge at this point. Not enough Buckbeak, would like more character exploration of that guy. Five stars.
Remus Lupin and Sirius Black are the best characters everrr. Definitely my favorite book in all of the Harry Potter series! ❤
