A new favorite by Jeffers (and Winston).  The story illustrated is sweet and inventive on its own, but I highly recommend reading all of the “dictionary” content for delightful definitions and ties to the more direct story being told. Love.

A very fun romp through the dictionary. What struck me was how much fun it would be to pay attention to the details, because the illustrations are carefully layered over the dictionary entries. Lots of fun with words.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one at first. I think I'm more into the illustrations than the story. I'd love to know how Winston selected which dictionary entries to highlight. And his drawing of puddle? Stunning. It looks like it's drooping over words at one point, a 3D effect on a 2D page.

What a creative use of a dictionary to tell a story! I enjoyed how the endpapers said the history behind why dictionaries were created. I also liked the humor on many of the pages and spent so much time reading the dictionary entries in the illustrations. I'm not sure that many young students have used a printed dictionary-most of my students use dictionaries in various apps but not the printed ones of my youth. I can only imagine how long it took to get the definitions on all the pages. It's such a cool story!

Read for 5 minutes or read for an hour. This is a picture book that you can keep coming back to. Thanks to hundreds of definitions with flare, mom can stay entertained while reading the same book AGAIN. 
Great pick for gifting to a young family.
