Worth the read
A bit slow to begin with but as the story goes on it gets more intense. Recommend if you're into mystery books.

This was exciting. A quick read. Graphic at times, which could be triggering for some.
DS Maddie Ives has had a long career as an Undercover Cop. After a few bad decisions in her most recent case her cover is blown, and she needs to be relocated to a small town. It's for her protection from the targets in her case, they are bad news.
She's not happy about the reassignment, and neither is her new boss, DCI Julian Lowe. He feels she's a problem, and isn't looking forward to dealing with her.
She is struggling and trying to last at least a week. Then she meets another co-worker Harry Blacker, he has the same drive as her to work a case.
Her responsibilities include dealing with missing persons while Harry is in Major Crimes dealing with a possible murder hit and run. He has very few clues to go on. Maddie's missing person has previously been reported 15 times, so the rest of the department isn't taking the case seriously. However, Maddie feels something is off and doesn't want to let go.
If I add more details it would reveal too many Spoilers.
This one was page turner and I was eager to start book 2.

When I picked up this book I didn't expect to be tossed in such a deeply detailed police investigation into missing and murdered woman. What is more, I never thought that I would be reading the horrible events as they were happening to one of these poor women.
When reading from the victims point of view, you not only felt sorry for them but were also repulsed, thrilled, scared, and sometimes extremely terrified with them. She was written in such a way that her feelings were your own. Due to this level of writing I was holding out hope for the whole book that they would find her!
The level of detail to the detective work in this was also written so well. Every detail that should go together is presented to you within the first quarter of the book. You just don't know how they connect yet.. Typically with books like this, I like to try and solve them before I get to the end. With other books, if I guess correct or it is obvious before the end I am usually disappointed. HOWEVER, this author did such an amazing job of withholding one teeny tiny detail that prevented you from guessing who the killer is, thus keeping you on the edge of your seat the whole book.
I can not wait to read the rest of this series. I am hoping that all characters stay as they seemed to work well with each other and the way their relationship was laid out was simply perfect!

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for a good old smart rebellious female character who buck the norms and solves the crime. Looking forward to how the characters develop over the series
