Multi viewpoint conspiracy thriller that occurs over one day. Action packed! A fun read! I’m a Chris Pavone fan!
A book that is hard to put down and very exciting. I had no idea it would end as it did and I read this novel really fast just to know how it ends. I found this second novel of Pavone much better then the previous "the expats". Maybe also because it's a lot about books and publishing, which I really enjoy to read about.
Bummed about this book. Loved this author's first book, The Expats. Thought this one would have been as page turning as that one. Instead, it was work! Disappointed!
This is not as good as I hoped it would be. I heard S King recommended it. For some reason I had to force myself to read this one. I also almost fell asleep while reading it. Not a good sign.
Not quite as good as his first one, and it had a few too many takes on "new media" and "the internet these days". Slightly excusable for 2014, but not entirely.
Great thriller book, will keep you turning pages for sure. Kind of a "what if there were an expose of Rupert Murdoch" sort of book....how far would powerful people go to cover up their past? A great airplane or beach read.
What a mess. This book made me so angry at times. The only reason i am giving it 2 stars instead of one is that I did feel compelled to go all the way to the end and there was one surprise for me (I predicted everything else). This felt like it needed major editing, and some portions were just not believable.
I really liked this book. It was suspenseful and interesting, with a great premise. I love the idea of a book jump starting the story.
It starts with literary agent Isabel Reed finishing the final pages of an anonymous manuscript which is explosive and filled with secrets, most of which are about very powerful people and about Isabel herself. From there the story pulls in CIA operatives trying to bury the manuscript and it tells the story of the author himself who is hiding out in Zurich constantly looking over his shoulder.
The book takes place over one very long, tense, increasingly perilous day in the lives of all these different people. They are constantly colliding and ricocheting off one another as the manuscript itself heads on its slow march to publication. The interplay with all the different characters was my favorite part of this book. It really did rocket along from the first page to the last.
I've never read a book by author Chris Pavone, but I think I will definitely seek some of his others out. The characters were all interesting and well written, and I stayed up way too late finishing this book.

Not as good as Expats – very slow to get moving and I wasn't engaged with characters – felt flimsy. After awhile it picked up speed and was a little better. Biggest problem was that I just didn’t care all that much about the people desperately trying to get out of trouble.
