Ugh. John Bolton holds himself in very high esteem. He doesn’t like democrats, he thinks Ronald Reagan was one of the best presidents in history. This was a hard read (it took me a month to drudge through the first 20% of the book before it expired. I switched to the audio version, and cranked out the rest at high speed. The structure of this book is like a ping pong match between 20 players, but then again, considering the subject of the book, it makes sense. I have zero desire to ever read another book by John Bolton, and reading this book helped confirm that I can’t trust any of his options or perspective, even if they’re infinitely more trustworthy than this almighty boss.
The most that I got out of this is that the almighty leader is like an ADD child without treatment, that his staff are like babysitters, and this will go down as a historic period of time (not a good kind of historic either). This presidency is terrifying.

Tried, but couldn’t finish this war monger’s memoir.
Meh. There was nothing new here. Basically he was happy when Trump agreed with him and angry when he didn't.
Bolton is so self-obsessed (and, in his opinion, better than everyone else in the room), I frequently had to put the book down just to get a break from his narrative. I hope someone teaches him what the word "compromise" means one day. There was not much new in this book that you wouldn't know if you loosely followed politics. If you're into the "dear diary" approach to books and can stand the political opinions of a man I fundamentally disagree with, go for it. This book is for you. Otherwise, I strongly would not recommend.

I borrowed this from my library because I was interested in reading something that challenged me intellectually / philosophically, but I didn’t want to financially support John Bolton.
I didn’t find myself learning much from this. It was a mix of veiled resentment of DJT, a policy platform for unenlightened views on global affairs, and an appeal for a return to conservatism. I was underwhelmed and would not recommend.

It is easy to describe this book in two words, boring and dry. "Nevertheless she persisted" is what I kept saying to myself while trying to get through it. I kept hoping it would get better and be more engaging.
There was nothing shocking in this supposed "tell all" book. Just more of the usual about a person who is completely unqualified to run a country (any country, even a small one lol). There were parts that definitely made me shake my head but there was nothing that has not been covered by the media, or tweeted by the great orange one himself.
Once again I am happy to be Canadian! I suppose this might have been more interesting to me if I was living south of the border but I doubt it.
This book is for you if you are a fan of detailed non-fiction political books. Otherwise I would suggest you pass.

Ugh. This was a real slog. Just dense and devoid of flow. Bolton is a pompous, self-important ass who never misses an opportunity to tell you when he was right, and who rightly acknowledged his genius. In his condescending tone, he makes sure you know that all others in the government are various flavors of dopey and ineffective. Honestly, I finally gave up with about four chapters to go. This was as much fun to read as the details of an online software license, or the risk factors section of a 10-K.
If you’re looking for an interesting tell-all look elsewhere. In need of a good editor.
