When I started reading this book I knew that he kills himself because I’ve seen the movie but reading it just makes it 10x more painful. This book is beautifully written and tells the love story of Violet Markey and Theodore Finch. The book is always better than the movie but I really wish the movie went more into detail like the book did. All in all would recommend someone to read this book 100% of the time!

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this one. Mental health is extremely important and should be talked about more and more, especially in literature. However, I can’t help but think that books like this one sort of romanticises mental illness - Finch’s struggles with bipolar disorders were almost portrayed as him being ‘quirky’ rather than taken seriously.

Also, I grew tired of books with the stereotypical blond-cheerleader character, it felt like Violet had no personality other than her own struggles with loss/depression.

It was an okay read. Again, still a very important topic to talk about but maybe not the greatest approach.

Reading this a second time, 5 years later STILL hurts. ‘A girl who learns to love from a boy who wants to die’.

“You are all the colours in one, at full brightness”

“There was nothing to make him last”

I liked the idea behind it. I liked the development of the characters, Finch however is discussable. I liked the way surroundings were described. And I liked how it was put in theme.

Even though there was room for improvement, as far as I read at the end of the book, it had a personal touch from the author.

This book gave me an idea upon what I can type on my blog

I'm going to give myself a few days to sort my thoughts before I write the review. Because, on one hand, I liked the writing as well as the theme of the book. I couldn't put it down and I also liked Finch.

On the other hand, I feel like we didn't really get to know the real Finch and that the book may have been a bit deliberately tragic. I'm quite conflicted.

I love this book too much. Everything about it is adorable and sad. It makes me wonder if boys can be as in love with girls and girls are in love with them?
I love this author so much and I love contemporary teen love stories
