Liked it better in print than audio, maybe if I read it all instead of listening to half I would give it a higher rating?

This was a really fun read. It didn't really make me want to read more the way Hunt The Stars did (which makes sense, as that's a much more recent book and the author's had more time to hone her craft!) but it was still a nice and spicy space romp. Will definitely read more of the series and the author's other work at some point.

I was excited for this one but I really didn’t jive with the narrative style. It felt a bit “gas light gate keep girl boss in space” and I just couldn’t get into it. I might give it another shot sometime but for now I just have to put it up because I’m not feeling it at all.

This was a nice diversion but I'm left feeling pretty unmoved. I love space operas and I love romance novels, so was SO excited to read a mash-up of the two, but the result was pretty mediocre. Ada is a solid heroine, but I didn't really see the appeal of Loch and wasn't super invested in them as a couple. Also, the series seems to follow that romance novel convention of focusing on a different pairing in each book, whereas I'd prefer to stick with Ada and see what happens to her next. So, I won't be continuing with this series.
This one was not quite to my tastes. The writing was fine (although a tendency to spell out contractions was a distracting), and the story moved at a good clip. But the conventional romance plot and the conventional space opera world building added up to a whole lot of convention and not a lot for me to get excited about.
Some of this is about my disinterest in alpha heroes - although to be fair, in this book the saving of lives went in both directions. But the romance plot felt generic to me, with a shovel speech and all. The space opera plot let us see lots of action among the (mostly white) elites and their military forces, and very little about everyday people and everyday life. There's no reflection on the messed up class system that put the elites in power to begin with, or about the way power in this future seems to be just as tied to whiteness as it is in our contemporary world.
All in all, not for me.
