Something about the main character had me feeling very meh. He just seemed a bit one dimensional and bland ? Same as the neighbours, they didn't feel strong as secondary characters, so their world didn't feel fleshed out enough for me. The story was intriguing enough, who doesn't love a good mysterious institution. But ultimately it all fell a little flat. I had semi-guessed where it was going, and felt underwhelmed by the reveals. Riley Sager can deliver really solid thrillers but this one, while it was readable, didn't quite hit that mark for me.

The book was losing me in the middle, but dang Riley knows how to write an ending. Definitely a good thriller and cements him as an easy engaging read for me in future.
