Oh wow how I loved this book and the drama that is in it. Even though the story is from the 60 ties when things were different, this book will keep you on the end of your couch. Waiting of what will happen now? Lots of characters and lots of drama.

It's the best Arthur Hailey book out of all I read; It actually was the first I read, so I read 3 more right after and then realized that one was the best. The story, the issues it raises, and the thoughts it brings all broke my heart. Just read it!

I bet this one was groundbreaking in the day. It holds up better than I thought it would. Had a nice twist at the end. You'll see it took me four years and two starts to get through it. Decent summer read.

Loved this!  So much drama and tension!  Despite being written in the 1960's, for the most part it has aged very well, although there might be times when you have to take things with a grain of salt.  For example, in keeping with the times, prejudices and racial segregation were depicted; also main character McDermott's descriptions and interactions regarding 19 year old Marsha definitely had an icky, creepy factor at times.  (Thankfully, it was a very small sub-plot and other than a kiss nothing happened between them.)

I absolutely loved all the behind-the-scenes depictions of the hotel, especially since I was just in New Orleans this past May!  It was very satisfying seeing most of the despicable characters get their comeuppance towards the end.  I would definitely re-read this and plan to dig through Arthur's Hailey's backlist for more hidden gems, as I've absolutely loved the two I've read by him so far (Airport being the other).
