Really good! Getting the rest of the series.

The first book in what might be a trilogy, this was a fantasy centering on two teenage twins, Sophie and Josh. Sophie works at a coffee house and her brother Josh works across the street at a used bookstore. One day Josh witnesses the kidnapping of his boss’s wife. He later finds out that she’s been kidnapped for a secret formula that makes a person immortal. Sophie and Josh go on a quest to request Nicholas’ wife and meet all sorts of interesting people along the way.

If you’re looking for good literature, if you’re looking for high art, this is not it, my dude. The characters are inconsistent and there are way too many books (I read this assuming that it was limited to just the one). However, its target audience is not discerning adults such as myself, and for the people it’s intended for, it’s fun, and cute, and if you suspend disbelief it can distract you from life for a bit. So rock on, kids, hope you defeat the looming fantastical issues in your world (we know you will).
Sincerely, reader who understands this is way too similar to Percy Jackson to be chill with copyrights, but would have enjoyed it a lot in middle school

Not the BEST book ever, mainly because it was only two days. I think things are moving way too slow. But I'm going to read the next book, hopefully it'll be better.

Not bad. I do not think I am interested in the rest of the series so it probably wasn't worth the read. Very slow at the beginning by gauged my interest towards the end.

Just read it for the fourth or fifth time and I still love it! It's absolutly one of my all time favorite series and I still want more and more

Good adventure, lots of suspense. Knowledge of various mythologies/legends helpful in understanding. Will most likely read at least one more in the series.

This book reminded me a lot of the Children of the Lamp series. However, I think Michael Scott did an amazing job incorporating myths and legends as well as the story of Nicholas Flamel. You can tell a lot of work was put into creating this "world within a world". But the story was typical - some twins happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, they saw something they shouldn't have, and it just so happens there is a prophesy about them, AND they have very powerful magic that will help save the world. And (slight spoiler***) one twin may be the doom of the world. I know that all of that may steer someone away from reading this series, but I for some reason enjoyed it enough to be curious about what happens next. I'm about to start the second book - The Magician - so I guess I'll have to wait and see whether the rest of the series is worth reading.

okay, i guess when you’re 9 you don’t really notice that this book isn’t written terribly well - and the characters are super annoying. it’s probably because the plot is really good - and it’s really the thing that makes this series sort of enjoyable.
i also remember the latter books in the series being a lot better than the first one, so i guess we’ll see if it gets any better during my rereads.

This was a fun book I was gifted. Not knowing anything about it, but my good friend knowing my reading taste I was excited. This had a lot of fun stuff: vampires that don’t drink blood, twins that can save or destroy the world, edge of your seat adventure, and so much more.
