Three of the stories (including the eponymous "Nightflyer") have already been included in the 50+ hours anthology "Dreamsongs", which is also availabe via Audible and therefore is the recommended "read". Of the three other stories only two ("Override" and "Weekend in a War Zone") are in my opinion close to the high standards I impose to George R. R. Martin's writing. All of them have been published before. So I can neither wholeheartedly recommend nor advise against this collection. It totally depends on the number of stories one already knows.

Or, as the author himself states on his Facebook page: "In other words, this is a real grab bag of a collection."

Audible Audio: The narrator does a good job, which just lifts the final score up to 4 stars.

Not his most talked-about work, this short novel is now a SYFY series. The story intrigued me simply because GRRM has a penchant for crafting interesting characters. His plotting is methodical but his characters really engaged and pulled me through much of the Game of Thrones series.

However,I felt as if GRRM simply didn't quite finish the story. As it were, I felt the need to know more about the characters. Although the conclusion of the novel is strangely satisfying, the backstories of the various members of the Nightflyer's crew could have been fleshed out more. As the way it stands, they all felt like one-dimensional prop pieces created to propell the events of the story forward.

Overall, a short thrill ride that captivated me through the story with a rushed conclusion.

2018 yapımı Nightflyers dizisini büyük bir beğeniyle izlemiştim. Sonrasında George R. R. Martin’in hikayesinden uyarlama olduğunu öğrenince elbette kitabı okuma listeme ekledim. Martin’in romanlarına elbette bakacağım eğer Game of Thrones serisini tamamlarsa direkt başlamayı düşünüyorum ama bu kitabı benim beğenimi kazanamadı maalesef.

This book was fine.

Being a Novella it is hard to gauge.
The core structure and story were a fun, interesting, mysterious time, but more of a proof of concept before a greater novel.

I stand by the opinion that Martin should stick to writing his ASOIAF series (out of selfishness cause I want it finished!!!), but it was interesting reading something different, and I am intrigued enough to watch the NETFLIX adaptation.

Short Summary: A group of individuals set out on a scientific expedition to uncover the mysteries of an alien race but along the way, an alien presence makes itself known and the group is fighting for their lives while trying to figure out if this is the same alien presence that they sought.

Thoughts: This novella has an impressive concept but the wide cast of characters that went without proper development and the strange focus on the sex lives of these 9 individuals was needless and I would’ve much preferred more details on the mysterious alien race instead.

Verdict: Nightflyers is a very unsettling little read and I’m very much looking forward to the visual aspects of bringing this novella to life on the small screen.
