Not the best in terms of the procedural side of this series, but tons of development for the two idiots I'm still rooting for. The narration, as always, top notch.
Holy shit. I love this series so much.
What I loved:
•Seong-Jae and Mal are just the sweetest. They invented love. I cannot!!! When they agreed to call each other boyfriends- it was just so freaking cute.
• I love Malcom and how cocky he is. Honestly his snarky bad-boy-but-is-really-a-softy attitude just makes me laugh.
•Sade and Mal are friends again and Yes, I adore their friendship.
• We finally get some answers about Seong-Jae’s past.
•I AM JUST GOING TO SAY IT: I SHIP GABRIELLE AND ANJULIE SO MUCH! I’m sorry but these two women are made for each other and while we’re getting hints I’m just hoping it pans out because I swear, I already fucking adore this series but a slow burn f/f relationship to occur as well??? Not to be dramatic but I’d just die of happiness.
What I didn’t love as much:
•The case in this installment was interesting but it was solved very quickly and wasn’t really a mystery. I guessed the killer the minute we meet them.
• NOBODY IS TELLING MAL ANYTHING! It’s starting to annoy me. I get it’s all leading to a bigger plot and ending but come on, give me something.
•We still don’t know much about this Sila fucker!!
Overall I still love this series. I’m both intrigued and terrified for what’s to come but I do hope we start getting some more defiant answers. My curiosity cannot handle it!

Ok cult episodes are intriguing, per usual. Enjoying how the emphasis on these books are more on all of the cast and their reactions to scenarios, rather than trying to make mind melting cases.
Very intrigued with S-J's cult leader dude who I'm guessing is M's one night stand and cute stalker, and the guy in G's interview office.
Learning more about S-J and my heart is in pain hearing more about his upbringing. Wrap that guy in hugs. I also love that he sings to M, and their little "conversation" about how they don't need excuses to see each other. (Boyfriends! Finally!)
Popcorn is out for whatever plot chaos will be happening soon.

5 stars because it's related to cult and gaslighting, which are always my favorite topic in every suspense/mystery novels, and this book handles it beautifully.
3.5 rounded up
We finally got one of Seong-Jae's secrets! This was one of the more obvious/simple ones that has been building for a bit, but it was nice to have Seong-Jae tell Malcolm about it. More Sila movement as well, though that's still simmering in the background and I am curious to see how that all develops...
Seems to be setting up a Gabi/Anjulie pairing as well, which will be interesting given Anjulie is aro and Gabi very much seems not to be. Also a bit nervous about Sila's placement there, as I just *know* shit's gonna go down!
Glad Malcolm and Sade seem to be good again, but I honestly am not loving Sade... I felt like they got off way too easy for how hurtful they were, and I don't really understand why Malcolm trusts them so much. Also, the way they are trying to make Malcolm doubt Seong-Jae while also keeping mega secrets is just kind of shady to me.
A little annoyed at how much "raven" and "old wolf" there is--WE GET IT. Also, for all the sexy switching talk, it seems to very much not be happening, which I'm kind of bummed about, as I'm pretty sure it'll happen but be a ~once in a blue moon~ kind of thing, which is fine, just not my personal preference, lol.
Mystery was fine, not my favorite, but not bad.

This book has a lot more focus on the relationship between Malcom and Seong-Jae - meaning, that slow-burn has finally been kindled into a large blaze. And it’s sweet. And I really appreciate the continued discussions of asexuality (it started in the last episode). As an ace myself, I find Seong-Jae’s experiences really close to mine and it makes me feel validated as a reader. More often than not, nuances such as that are largely ignored in fiction. So this representation in a romance fiction is very well received by me.
And we finally get a little more glimpse to Seong-Jae’s past. In my opinion, the series has more focus on Malcolm’s personal life than Seong-Jae’s and I think that’s by design. Seong-Jae is still a mystery. But I’m hoping for a lot.
I have been enjoying the series so far. Haven’t been disappointed.
