I LOVED the backstory we were given on Padmé’s relationship with her handmaidens! It just added a whole other layer to the events of The Phantom Menace. While I really enjoyed this book, there were several parts I noticed that wouldn't make sense to the reader if they weren't already familiar with Episode I. This could limit the audience for this really engaging narrative! That being said, I did feel super smart when I figured out what was being referenced with a simple sentence (like on page 208 in my copy, I had to put the book down and have a happy "awww" moment). Queen Amidala's wardrobe has always been a favorite subject of mine in the Star Wars universe, so I was very happy to be able to see the details of her most notorious outfits written with such care. very excited to read the next one!

I love Padme and Anakin, it’s so fun getting to see more of who Padme is and how she conducts herself. Excited for the next book!! This was a good, quick and easy read :)

A great story about the early weeks of Queen Amidala and into the events of The Phantom Menace. I loved learning about the handmaidens and where they came from. Each girl has her own abilities and skills that help the queen in some way.
I would have liked to see The Phantom Menace intertwined more seamlessly. Because we know the story already, there was only small snippets to show the current time and events of the movie but it was largely glossed over with large jump cuts.

This book gave me everything I wanted. Padmé content. Canon lesbians. Menstruation. Canon bisexual!Sabé. Deep love for The Phantom Menace. Women supporting women.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves Star Wars, or honestly even anyone who doesn’t love Star Wars and just loves a good female-centric story.
