May the 4th be with you! ✨ So happy to have finished this book today - the date wasn’t planned so I was very excited about that. This book gives a fascinating insight to fourteen year old Padme’s journey on becoming Queen Amidala and the steps she takes to perfect the position once she secures it. The main focus is on Padme and her handmaidens, which I thought was really interesting. Padme’s handmaidens have been specifically chosen for her and together, they all plot on how to become successful decoys for her. It’s basically the events leading up to The Phantom Menace, during, and right after. I loved it!! Definitely will be reading the other Padme books! ✨

One of my favourite books of the new canon and the best of the YA books. This book, and author, have done a wonderful job of not only telling a good story and expanding the universe of SW, but this book especially enhances Episode 1 in a way that will affect my future viewings.

I've just read this in one sitting, in about 3 hours without putting it down. Genuinely loved it so much, I love Padmé and this was another wonderful insight into her character and her rise to power as Queen of Naboo. Once again, I love the relationships between Padmé and her handmaidens, but especially her relationship Sabé.
I am biased, since The Phantom Menace is my favourite Star Wars film and I obviously love the characters and settings in it, but this really added so so much to it!
I think this is my favourite Star Wars book series <3

I’ll be writing a longer review on SWNN. While I loved Queen’s Shadow, this didn’t really feel focused to me. There are some wonderful moments but ultimately it didn’t feel like a story from start-to-finish. These characters are great and Johnston does a fantastic job writing them and it’s certainly worth a read for fans of Padmé, The Phantom Menace, and Queen’s Shadow. If you approach this novel as a collection of moments spanning from before The Phantom Menace to different character perspectives during events of the film I think you will be delighted.
This was such a fun YA Star Wars story, I really enjoyed the backstories for all the handmaidens! The book skipped most sections of the story that are portrayed in the movie, which made it feel like the story jumped around a lot? Putting that aside, I'm such a fan of the combination of a science fiction political drama/coming of age story!! The deep dive into the friendships between young women makes for such a fascinating and emotionally invested story
Y’all already know I love Padme. I knew I was going to like this but I really enjoyed it. I thought the book order was interesting because this one is really a prequel to Queen’s Shadow. If you even remotely enjoyed The Phantom Menace, you’ll enjoy the depth that this book adds to that story. I really appreciate @ek_johnston for what she’s added to the prequels and to Padme. It feels like my favorite character is finally getting the attention and care she deserved. I can’t wait to get my hands on the last book!
I laughed, I cried, I gained new insight into The Phantom Menace. Such an insightful, wonderful addition to the galaxy I've loved for so long!
