Reading a Novella is supposed to be a quick and easy read but not with Indie and Lux. From the first paragraph of this masterpiece your heart will start to crack and by the end it will be in pieces. Lux will steal your heart and Indie will disarm you. This story is about finding the ugly bits of someone and loving them even though the world condemns them. If I could have lived in Lux and Indie’s world forever I just might.
A quick note. This book is not for the faint of heart. Check your trigger warnings because there are ALOT of them! It was 1000 percent worth it for me but your mental health matters. If you can get past the triggers this is a beautiful love story worth painfully short amount of time it takes to read.

I try not to sign up for too many ARCs anymore, but when I saw this one I could not resist! A dark circus romance?! Of course sign me up! And this book did not disappoint. A novella, but it packs a punch! I absolutely loved it!
Indie - a sweet & innocent type in the beginning, but she’s not so innocent. She lives at home with her alcoholic father, her mother passed in a car accident, so she’s basically the responsible. One night her friends want her to go to this circus. They have been hearing about it all over TikTok. But it’s not your typical circus. This one is definitely “adults only”. The Cirque Du Désir is much too dark for children.
Lux - burned badly as a child in a home with a mom who didn’t care and his father figure beat him, he lost them both to the fire but was left with bad burns. As an adult he forms the Cirque Du Désir. He is the ringmaster. And he has shown no one his face and keeps it behind a clown mask. Not even his cirkies have seen his face. He never participates in the events. He just sits on his thrown for all to see as the dark events happen around him. That was until Indie came into the Big Top that night. Then everything changes for both of them so quickly.
This book is full of spice. There’s a good bit of triggers.

This book was literally everything. Dark, sexy, hot. It made me want to see additional scenes between Lux and Indie and to watch their relationship grow. It had the right amount of plot and plenty of spice. It made me want to learn more about Lux and how the circus started. This book isn’t for everyone and still would recommend reading the trigger warning before starting. In the end, I would read it again.

I will never look at ketchup packets the same way again...I'd lie if I said I didn't both laugh and was also a bit traumatised by that scene. Goal achieved?

I like that actually, their relationship with each other, while really fast (went from zero to I love you in 2 days), wasn't as sick and depraved as their surroundings. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't really make sense.
Because like, Lux had a really traumatic childhood, we find that out early on (I read that one line and was like "oh we're going there omg") and he's been running this carnival for a decade, never participating in the events he was hosting, and then suddenly Indie shows up and he's okay with being touched, but only by her.
Maybe this is only an issue because of the length, if it was a full length book there'd be more depth to their relationship and we'd get to see why Indie is so special. I kinda refuse to believe that no one else he perceived as innocent came into his tent in all those years.
I still liked it though, and had a good time reading it. Aaaaand shoutout to Claire for having the best style in the book, even if she wasn't a very good friend.
