it made me really sad to put down this book without finishing it, but it really wasn’t what i was looking for— it’s very superficial and reads like “pointers” than an actual biography. i was looking for smthn a bit more in depth and proper, with citations and direct verses/incidents that have translated to islam as it is now. sadly this wasn’t anything of the sort and i, well, didn’t want to read my grade 7 islamiat book all over again.

that said, i’m not gonna rate it because it’s not exactly a “bad” book/biography— just not what i wanted. it could very well be an excellent book for someone just starting out to learn more about the Holy Prophet (PBUH), or someone looking for a rough overview.

“I have left you with two matters which will never lead you astray, as long as you hold to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of his Prophet.”

I was so busy that it took ages to finish a book that had I been free, I would have finished it ages ago. We must read his seerah to understand what the prophet endured to bring the deen to us that we can practice it with ease.

The reason why we are in so much turmoil is because we have abandoned his sunnah in so many things. May Allah rectify us.

Reading this book in its entirety during the month of Ramadan has just renewed my profound love I have for my Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) and the Ummah.

This book was very easy to read but so difficult because of the hardships and trials that the Prophet (PBUH) and the Muslims at this time had to face. The hardships show an insight into the character of my Prophet (PBUH) and how resilient he was and how he never wavered in spreading the message of Islam.

The detailed account of the Prophet’s (PBUH) life, actions, and doings are incredibly detailed, it was so refreshing and really nourished me during this month of Ramadan. It also helped strengthen my emaan and when reading the Qur’an. I read and look at it in a different way because of the understanding that the Qur’an came as a revelation bit by bit in different circumstances and situations, difficulties and tribalities to my Prophet (PBUH). Every letter, every ayah, every Surah, has such a beautiful and deep meaning to it and reading this book has helped with also understanding the Qur’an better. I took so much from this book; it will always stay with me and without a doubt will re-read it time and time again.

May Allah grant the highest level of Jannah to the writer of this book. Ameen

Writing a book on the life and times of the Prophet is an heraculian task. Sheikh Safiur Rahman has done an excellent job in summarising the essence of our Prophet's life and message. This is a good introduction to the Prophet and highly recommend it for everyone.

For advanced readers, I would recommend The Sealed Nectar by the same author.
