I love anything to do with the Life is Strange universe and this did not disappoint!!

I’ll be honest that I was a little hesitant about the quality of this book, but let me tell you IT WAS SO GOOD. Not only was it exciting to get to dive back into the world and follow love-of-my-life Steph Gingrich, but this book has the same level of depth, emotions, and storytelling that the games have. It connected perfectly into not only the canon of the games, but also the canon of the comics, which was so exciting for me!! I also think it would be a perfectly good standalone read if you aren’t already familiar with the franchise.

Reading anything, comics or this book, that ties into Life is Strange brings me so much joy. I hope that things like these continue to be made.

(I got the physical book but can’t wait to listen to the audiobook with Katy!)

I love these games and this universe. I think this was a fantastic addition and felt very in line with the characters. Having played all the bonus materials, read all the comics, and playing wavelengths I felt like this included every little detail and rounded it into a nice story to read to really grasp Steph. Definitely recommend

Now the books amazing but you knew I’d say that already because I am hella biased. I’ve followed the Life is Strange franchise since it first came out years ago and you’ll pry it from my cold dead hands 😌 I love this series so much I was so excited when I found out this was coming out. As I said, Steph is one of my favorites and there was a lot of her story the games didn’t cover so being able to fill in the gaps of it all was great. I’m happy that a fan of the games got to write this book because nobody else could have done it justice. The writing lets you KNOW someone who truly loves this franchise wrote it. Steph is the same girl in this book that we know and love from the games, and this time from her POV and not from an outside character looking in. Following her Drugstore Makeup days, there’s a shit ton of ups and downs. Izzy is set up to be a really unlikeable character but I’m very conflicted on her. I don’t think she was a bad person she just didnt fit with Steph at all, she bent over backwards to be everything and anything Izzy wanted and it just wasn’t it. As you read on Steph becomes less and less herself and it kinda broke my heart to see. But at the end seeing her click with Haven Springs and knowing how her story ends going into True Colors made me so happy. It was also really nice to see more from Gabe, bc you can tell they have a deep friendship in TC but it never got a chance (IYKYK 🥲) I just really loved this incase you couldn’t tell. Please if you haven’t already go check this entire franchise out, I demand it actually. Anyways that’s all from me friends, hope you have a good day!

I adore the Life is Strange universe, from the games and even dabbled in the comics. I just love the characters and vibes of it all. So we finally get a novel and from one of my favorites POV, Steph.

Steph is in Seattle after college and after the events of Arcadia Bay. Still grappling with the grief of losing her mother, friends, and town. She meets Izzie, A rockstar queen. They end up in a relationship and forming a band. Is this Steph’s answer to healing or is there something more out there?

As a prequel to Life is Strange: True Colors this fills in and reveals what Steph’s been through right before Haven Springs. I enjoyed the cozy vibes and sense of humor Steph brings to her life. I appreciated the softer quieter moments of grief and just the imperfections of life. Author Rosiee Thor understand the world and characters. She gives this book the great queer indie movie ambiance that fans gel with so much with the series. There’s laughter and heart but also the melancholy. I am moving Rosie’s other novel “Fire Becomes Her” up in my TBR. Overall highly recommend for fans, but it’s also pretty easy for newcomers to enjoy as well as a stand alone. Can even be inspiration for picking up the games.

One thing I'll say is I really had to push through the beginning and almost gave up on this book.

The beginning made the relationship between Steph and Izzie seem really superficial and reminded me a lot of short-lived teenage love. But as the cracks in their relationship started showing up, I realized that this "too good to be true" portrayal in the beginning was totally intentional, because it was the blind type of love that Steph felt in the beginning. Only over the course of the book did she develop a more realistic view. From that point on I also enjoyed reading about the characters.

I didn't completely vibe with the writing style, but overall I believe that a novel isn't the best format for a LIS story anyway. The comics capture the feeling of the game better in my opinion. The author also had a habit of repetitively forming sentences that described an external event (e.g. Steph was cuddling with Izzie) and then continued with an internal feeling (but Steph still felt cold inside).
That happened so often that at some point I just wanted them to break up so I wouldn't have to read those obvious clues about it anymore.

I loved the Haven Springs section at the end, and just like Steph, I felt all the tension from previous plot events fall off my shoulders and was happy that she finally found her place.

Overall it was a good book and I was glad that I read it, just the writing style wasn't for me.
