This was a complex and interesting journey and it messed with my mind - it would be so much easier to hate the serial killer if the story started before the murders.

It starts off very "misery-esque" but is no way a rip-off of the story. The way he interacts with her and tries to draw her in, they're not kidding when they say it's a psychological thriller. It was also full of twists and turns and character arcs which was great to follow.

It did slow down a bit about halfway through and I thought that section could have been a bit shorter, but then the ending really picked up again. I also had a couple of minor niggles, but that's all they were.

This was Rebecca's first fiction novel, she usually writes true crime - which leant itself wonderfully to this book. I hope she continues to write more fiction, I will be on the look out.

*I received a complimentary copy of the e-book from RandomThingsTours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Good read. Two things I liked about the format: chapter titles and short chapters. Televangelist’s daughter Mary Sue is kidnapped by a serial killer who wants his story told-he is convinced his capture is eminent. She finds that she’s not totally horrified by him. It was a smooth, compelling read.

While I would have appreciated a suicide ideation content warning, I loved the core story of the main character, with their growth due to both things in this book and their backstory.

This was my first time reading a modern thriller. I honestly cannot say if I'll read another, but I felt this was an excellent dive into the genre.

It's hard to make a villain both endearing and attractive, as well as nauseatingly creepy and ugly - not just in how other characters relate, but in how we the readers react.

I can count the number of authors who I trust to pull it off on one hand, but Rebecca Frost has joined this illustrious group.

Bravo!
