FYI THERE IS NO SPICE.... none
This book was sweet but I felt there were a few missed opportunities to bring this book together. A lot of moments you have to use context clues or guess what occurred. With there being consistent flashback chapters I felt that space could have been used to add details to the present moments.

Another [a:Leah Brunner|21326120|Leah Brunner|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1699986990p2/21326120.jpg] book in the bag. I really enjoy the D.C. Eagles Hockey series and it's been nice to return to them since I last read the books back in November, a good 6 months ago. I always thought Ford Remington was a good, solid, mature character in those books but, I now want to go back and re-read [b:Passion or Penalty|60736881|Passion or Penalty (D.C. Well, missed may be the wrong word. I probably didn't understand his full personality (or rather, his teammates didn't as the previous books were always told from the POV of other people). In [b:Betrothal or Breakaway|198431617|Betrothal or Breakaway (D.C. Eagles Hockey #3)|Leah Brunner|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1705961939l/198431617._SY75_.jpg|201390676] we see a side of Ford that was never perceivable before.
From the previous books, we know that Ford Remington has a BFF, Amber, and they have known each other since childhood. Ford is not currently in a relationship and Amber has just had a baby with her ex-fiancé. He broke up with her when she found out she was pregnant (because, apparently, now it is a woman's fault they got pregnant unplanned).
Amber needs surgery and doesn't have money or insurance to cover the procedure so Ford offers to either loan her the money or marry her so she can benefit from his health insurance. This is no problem for Ford as he has always secretly loved Amber. However, it is difficult for Ford to express his feelings or even get close to people. You see, Ford has high-functioning autism, previously known as Asperger's. There are a select few people that he feels fully comfortable with, and Amber is one of them. As Ford and Amber take their friendship into a full relationship, and both open up about their true feelings, they decide to move from the "fake marriage" for convenience to a real marriage. Ford needs to also find the courage to tell his friends that he has autism.
The storyline is a sweet Hallmark-type story. Very cute, with very little to no drama (ok, maybe for a second when Amber's ex comes back into the picture and tries to take the baby) and Ford and Amber find their HEA. This is a closed-door romance with no spice. Again, I need to go back and read the previous books because I could have sworn the other books in the series had a little spice...like a 0.5 on the spice scale. Maybe I am remembering it wrong.
Either way, I think the book is cute and I can't wait to for the fourth installment with Bruce and Farrah's story.
