I have not read anything by this author. Now that I have read this book I will be adding this author to my list of authors to watch. Everything was right about this book... from the storyline, to the characters, tone of the story, and the beginning and ending of the book.

The Harvest Man is one creepy, sinister man. I would never want to meet him as his victims do not fare well. They end up with new facial makeovers. Inspector Day is a complex character. I like this about him. He was human and not perfect yet he is committed to his job and does a really good job of figuring out all of the pieces of the puzzle to get the whole picture. The Harvest Man will either keep you up with lack of sleep or give you nightmares!

This is a hard book to put down! I enjoy Alex's writing style. For a crime thriller it helps to keep the momentum. The ending will keep you anxious for the next installment.

I love this Alex Grecian series so I was super excited to get an advance copy from "First to Read". This fourth book in the series was no exception to the other 3...all great! You don't need to read the others to be able to enjoy this, but I think if you have the background of the main characters (Hammersmith, in particular) you will have a better understanding of who they are.

Set in late 1800's London the book really immerses you in the time period. I think his writing really gives you a feel of the time. There are several bad guys in this book and they intertwine kind of...it was pretty easy to keep them separate. Some of the scenes are pretty disturbing, not for the feint of heart and not a good one to read when you are home alone. I don't love the Jack the Ripper story line, and it is a subplot here, but the Harvest Man story line was pretty interesting. I didn't expect the ending and now I have to wait as patiently as I possible can for the next book in the series!

3.5 mer. Lättläst och lagom spännande. Lite ögonrullningar ibland med språket och ett lite frustrerande slut som till och men en av karaktärerna lyfter fram.

Alex pretty much sticks with the formula that had worked in this series thus far. If you have read the other books then you'll probably get that familiar feeling almost like deja vu. Too much Jack the Ripper in my honest opinion. I want to close out this series but i may wait another year for it to be fresh again to read the next book.

This book continues the story started in The Devil's Workshop. Of the 4+1 murderers the were set free, all but two have been taken care of. The one known as The Harvest Man and Saucy Jack/Jack the Ripper are still out there, somewhere, playing games that only makes sense to them. It is up to Inspector Day and the other members of Scotland Yard's Murder Squad to figure out the game and win. Hammersmith has been relieved of duty but that doesn't stop him from continuing the hunt on his end. Another fast-paced read that had me turning page after page as I made sure beloved characters were okay.

I quite enjoyed this recent installment of the Scotland Yard series. All of our favorite characters are back and our timeline is very near to the end of our last book. I enjoyed how all of the characters we given moments of reaction and lingering effects of the previous book. It was great to have real human emotions and actual effects of traumatic events included.

The Harvest Man was an interesting killer though I would have liked to learn more about him. he is searching for his family but so many questions are left open. Why is a child in his head? What about his ear? Why had he been in prison before? It did not need to be wrapped up in a bow but I wanted just a bit more. At times it felt a bit like filler in between the Jack story.

I was glad to see more with our women, Claire and Fiona. They are given time that is not just 'mother' or 'love sick' that still fits within the world; Claire and her rhymes and Fiona with her own detecting with Hammersmith.

And then, of course, the wonderful set up ending. Not how I expected it to go but it does leave me excited about the next installment! I love how Jack is written.
