Man, oh, man.
During the first third of the book, I wasn't super into the world and I didn't know how I felt about Nemisis. But WOW after a certain event occurs, the book really picks up and becomes rather incredible! The ending was a pure political thriller of Red Queen proportions, and I absolutely loved it!
Another thing I enjoyed was Nemisis's character arc. At first I really wasn't into her whole no-personality thing, but as the book goes on and she has to adapt to certain situations she would otherwise never have to do, she becomes much more interesting.

I honestly didn't expect to like this one as much as I did, I bought it on a whim and it sat on my shelf for age before I decided to pick up the audiobook, and I am really glad that I did. A tad predictable, but that's not unusual in YA. It felt like the political predicament of Mare in Red Queen meets the society of The Capitol in The Hunger Games, with just a sprinkle of Hamlet, all taking place in space. It explores a lot of darker concepts than one typically sees in YA sci-fi/fantasy, as well as themes of personhood in an interesting way, and though Nemesis could be obtuse sometimes, it was understandable given her character, and added a little dramatic irony to the plot imo. I do feel that this is one that I will continue with.
Moderate: Animal cruelty, Body shaming, Death, Drug use, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Suicidal thoughts, Violence, Murder, Classism

I had a hard time rating this between 3 and 4 stars... took a while to get interesting and some twists were predictable. However, excellent world building and some good character development. Ended up going with 4 because I will definitely be reading the second one:)

I thought this book was just a repeat of the worn out "prince who falls in love with the girl who is only disguised as someone in a position of power". But I'm happy to say that every time I was about to roll my eyes, the plot took a different turn.

This book was definitely something that I have never read; it was very unique and the plot was pretty different. Although I felt like I couldn't connect with the main character at times, I really saw the character development over time of Nemesis as well as Tyrus. The Diabolic was worth the read, and I would totally recommend this book!
