I love pirate stories, especially if the girl happens to be the adventurer.. as soon as I saw the title of this book, I was interested in reading the r'r'r'rest of the story. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. I felt the plot line was un-clear, the story seemed to jump from point to point, rather than flow.
Not to mention, the one encounter with pirates was very.... boring to say the least. I felt that the story was a bit predictable, the mother was dead, and with in a couple of pages, the father had passed on, the Uncle turned evil, and the main character is shipped off, meets her true love on board said ship...but decides to continue onto her (surprise!) evil relatives.
To be honest I had to force myself to continue reading the book, as after a certain point it wasn't a "good read" anymore.
I wish there was a little more depth to the story, something to make me connect with the character and want her to succeed.

Anxious to leave England and return to America, Dorian Colburn isn't thrilled with the prospect of transporting a spunky Englishwoman across the Atlantic. Forced to leave her homeland after the death of her beloved father, Kendra isn't thrilled with what the unknown future holds for her. Thrown together unwittingly, a tentative friendship forms between them. When Kendra's life is threatened, Dorian realizes the true feelings of his heart and wonders if there can be a future for them together.
This is an exciting, entertaining story with a charming heroine and handsome hero. While I found myself annoyed at times with Kendra's instant ability to jump to the wrong conclusions, I admired her gumption. And with evil villains and scoundrels, Dorian was the perfect hero, always rushing to the rescue. Along the way, though, they both learn the importance of God and family.
While I appreciate receiving unedited ARCs for review, I find myself very often frustrated with the editing/continuity/depth issues that are inherent to ARCs and this copy had quite a few. I would really like to read the final version to see the necessary corrections and what additional changes were made as well.
Still, this is a charming romance with just enough adventure and suspense. It was one I enjoyed and one I can easily recommend.

I must say that at the beginning of the story I was prepared to really like Uncle Andrew. This was a captivating story. I am excited to try more Jamie Carie novels.

This story began sadly and heartbreaking with the death of Lady Kendra's mother after her birth. On her deathbed she made her husband promise to love and protect Kendra and to allow her to choose her own husband. The story unfolds with a beautiful bond of faith and love between father and daughter but quickly turns tragic at the introduction of her long gone uncle and the death of her father. Truly heart-wrenching.
As Lady Kendra's world is turned upside down her faith is pushed to the limit. The loving and caring environment she was used to is ripped from her hands. The freedom of love and choice of a husband is taken from her and her uncle arranges a marriage to someone Kendra just does not love.
Choosing to try out her own wings and explore what the world has to offer Lady Kendra begins a journey that will alter her life and change her faith. Though I expected something quite different from the cover alone the story of love and redemption is still sweet. However, there is only a brief mention of pirates.
I did not care for the cover at all. In fact to be very honest the cover art kept me from picking up this book for a long time - it is just not the most attractive or alluring cover I have seen.
Thank you to B&H Publishing for this review copy.

It took awhile to pick up, but by the end, I was anxious to see how the story would turn out! Carie kept the action going until the very end, which made it exciting. Overall, it was a good story!

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. HOWEVER, I DID NOT READ IT PRIOR TO THE BOOK BEING ARCHIVED AND REMOVED FROM MY KINDLE, SO I CHECKED A COPY OUT FROM MY LOCAL LIBRARY AND READ IT THAT WAY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!
I've moved away from Historical Romances in recent years, but since they came up for a challenge for me this month, I decided to look this one back up and give it a go. Sadly, it was a disappointing read for me.
The book had an interesting premise, but they wound up in the insta-love trope entirely too quickly, so that soured me on the whole story. They also constantly jumped to conclusions, which made me feel as if they didn't trust each other. The plot was jumpy, and everything felt underdeveloped overall.
I doubt I will read more by this author.

( a big thanks to netgalley and author Jamie Carie for a chance to read this book)
Review:
Pirate of My Heart is a story woven with betrayal, love , and faith. Kendra grows through her trails and loss into a capable strong young woman. I thoroughly enjoyed the setting and the background provided for this swashbuckling romance, it was easy to understand what it might be like on a ship as well as on dry land. Author Jamie Carie did a fairly good job of introducing her characters but at parts it felt a bit rushed. I enjoyed the strong threads of scripture and faith that both Kendra and Dorian obviously needed as they fought against all the elements that would try and separate them. I am rating this as a 2 star purely because at times I felt lost reading it , that some times chunks of book felt missing. A two star as it may be I still enjoyed the potential that this book offered. I hope that the author continues writing and developing her stories and her skills for I see great things in her future.
