What keeps sticking in my mind about this story is how well the author describes the main character's having to learn how to code switch between two different cultures' ways of thinking about things. It's a cool book. I recommend it.

I absolutely ADORE this book and the writing!! It was so much more than a Rapunzel retelling. It was full of overcoming prejudice, betrayals, and a bad ass FMC who came into her own power. Perry had so much unravel for her and her trying to come to terms with it all was the icing on the cake. She had so many complicated emotions. Not only is this book great for anyone to read, but especially children. It deals with so many complicated situations and themes that are relevant to today.

I like Gail Carson Levine and enjoyed this story but not quite as much as its sequel The Two Princesses of Bamarre. I did read it after so perhaps that was the problem. but lots of adventure, and monsters but not too gory, I still would recommend it.
Read for Popsugar: A book and its prequel
Prequel first! It's been ages since I've read Two Princesses, though, so maybe I should have read it first, haha. I've had issues with some of Levine's later books because nothing stacks up to my beloved Ella Enchanted, but this one was not bad! Sort of Moses, a touch of Rapunzel, lots of adventure. I might come back and add more once I've read Princesses again.

I'm giving this book three and a half stars. It's a great book!
This book is about a girl named Peregrine( nicknamed Perry). She is raised by a Latki family until a fairy tells her that she's actually Bamarre. And that's not all, Perry is going to save the Bamarre . Will Perry be able to do it? Will she find her real Bamarre
family? Will her beloved Latki family turn against her when they find out the truth? Find out in The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre!
Like I said, this is a great book. I recommend it to anyone who wants a fun entertaining story to read.

Weirdly slow for such a short book. Luckily the relationship dynamics are much better than in the other book set in this world, but the book as a whole is also a lot less fun and readable. The main character has a decent arc. The Rapunzel stuff is integrated creatively and fairly subtly, which is what I would expect from Gail Carson Levine. The oppression plotline is heavy handed but fine. Overall, not Levine's best, but it still had good moments, especially near the end.
Graphic: Death, Gore, Racism, Xenophobia, Blood, Colonisation

A cute addition to the Two Princesses of Bamarre - I enjoyed this explanation of how the political landscape developed. I was definitely older than the intended audience - the prose was too simple for my enjoyment at many points, but I appreciated the author's intent
