Very good book for book chat. The readable style and interesting content carry me forward but the casual killing and disquieting physical details leave a bad taste in my mouth. I read the first 130 pages but plan to go to Book Chat with the rest of it unread.

Story did not fulfill its promise.  

Book starts well, sets up to be a bit philosophical and a bit of a morality play in a Western genre.  

I was into the first half of the book but then it turns really dark and very brutal.  Violence that leans into horror.  And the plot doesn't resolve so much as expire.  I didn't get any great payoff for subjecting myself to so much grotesque brutality.  I just feel drained.

Points for writing style and storytelling.

This is not a fun, romping western, but rather a contemplative one. Also very gross. The West is quite unforgiving. I wanted both more backstory and more conclusion. Not my usual sort of book. I liked the audiobook narrator and thought he enhanced the experience.

This Western of outlaws on a mission had some good characters, but I wish the plot and characters had been flushed out more. The narrator's a charmer.

A+ narration. This book had a lot of dry humour and I loved the Eli's voice and character as narrator. I've never read a western but I'll probably read some more now that I liked this one
