I had such high expectations for this book. Gunfighting, bounty-hunter brothers on a journey to find a con-man; how much more exciting can a book get?! Unfortunately the book fell flat for me. The plot was good, but I felt no attachment to any of the characters and there was no excitement or sense of urgency in the flow of the story.

Tragic and darkly comic Western that is compelling for its quirky, original characterization and page-turning plot. The use of water imagery still has me thinking along some interesting symbolic lines. Uneven use of comma and quotation rules was a distraction.

Despite dark themes, quite a thoughtful and engaging story and moral tale. Nice, understated writing.

i loved this book. simple language, story simply told, but there's so much going on, and eli is the perfect character, caught up in the events, to tell the story.
so many of these chapters could also just standalone, though the sum is greater than the parts. however, the chapter with the tooth doctor, reginald watts.. i just wanted to share that chapter with everyone. i'll edit this review at some point and drop in the amusing quotes from that there.

Interesting book, I enjoyed the storyline and thought the ending with the search for gold unusual.
