With Love

3.45 AVERAGE

After re reading this one I’m finding it hard to believe it was written by the same author as the rest of this series.

While I found Lainey’s clumsiness cute to an extent, his girlish giggling grated on my nerves. Throw in a female version of him in the form of Caroline and I was ready to quit. Listening to the two of them together was painful.

The story line of Dev taking over as Alpha would of worked so much better if the Alpha he had to fight was a worthy opponent. Seriously we are lead to believe Alphas are the strongest and biggest yet this Alpha was nothing more than an over weight bully. Why couldn’t he of at least been a big strong bully? One everyone else had a reason to fear?

Due to the book being a short there was far to much sex and not enough plot.

I can only give thanks that J L Langley went on to perfect her craft. Unlike a lot of authors who continue to churn out the same drivel, she went on to produce a pretty great series. Don’t be put off if you read this book first. I’m glad I actually started this series with book 2 lol

Re-read and Re-rated from a 4 to a 2.

I would say this shifter story is for fans of J L Langley. For those that like her style and know how she crafts her characters and love scenes. She is a great writer but the plot is an average mated shifter story. With a sprinkle of vengence thrown in for good measure.

I like that you can enjoy Dev and Laine together or apart. You can read about them chatting with friends, or, in bed and they are equally engaging. Laine was a giggling, goofy clumbsy acting kid but since that endured him to Dev I did not mind those flaws. Even secondary characters Caroline and Cole added a bit to the story.

At only 60 pages [e-book:] the story begins, picks up and ends quickly. I think that Dev and Laine being mates explains their instant deep love and therefore more time can be spent with the physical side of the relationship. Also J L Langley was able to give you more of a glimpse into
their personal lives and the life [issues:] of the pack [and pack heirarchy:].

Of the three books in the series, this is my least favorite. Technically it's only a story or a novella. It had more Dom/Sub relationship going on, this one a bit stronger (but still not in bad taste for me).

For me the biggest bleh was the amount of sex to story. I think the story was 60 pages and it felt like 20 of it was plot. Maybe I wasn't in the mood to read that much smut, and I realize the genre I'm reading, but it just didn't do it for me.

3.5, too insta-love and sort of boring for me. Read on Overdrive

This is one of those cases where I don't mind the insta-love as it's clearly a shifter thing. Lainey is of course the adorable omega wolf that stumbles all over himself and yet you can do anything but love him. He's so gung ho energy and wouldn't hurt a fly. All the little silly things that he ends up doing just endear him to you more. Of course Mr. Big Bad Alpha wants to own him.

Enter Devlin, trying to be a good wolf and join the existing pack, but he can't just stand by and watch a weaker wolf get hurt. So of course he's going to step in, and of course he's going to be mated to Lainey. Who wouldn't find all that bumbling adorable even if you weren't destined to be together. Hehehe.

This story is one of those, easy to figure out where it's going, but its so sweet you enjoy the ride. Lainey and Caroline are hysterical together and you just know they're going to get into trouble for the rest of their lives as a duo. I mean heck Lainey gets tangled in phone cords and can't get out. ;)

This whole story just makes me smile. It's simple and enjoyable and as always I love Ms. Langley's voice as a writer. Overall 4.5 stars or gooey sweetness with a hint of spice.

This is such a sweet story. Devlin saves Lainey from being attacked by the pack's, alpha Victor. Dev discovers that Lainey is his mate and he will do anything to protect him.

It is very insta-love like a lot of mate stories are. Dev is very dominant, while Lainey is a submissive, accident-prone, cutie! They both just work together so well and they can't get enough of each other, which is evident by the vast number of sex scenes.

I love Lainey Granny and Dev's best friend Cole. His wife Caroline is so much live Lainey it's nuts. They are going to get into so much trouble together.

Victor the pack alpha is a nasty piece of work. He is obsessed with Lainey and will do anything to have him. This leads Dev to take the arsenal on. I am so relished what happens to him!

This book is a great little intro to an amazing series. My favourite is the first book which is also a beautiful manga. So glad I discovered this series and would so recommend it.

I normally don't find clumsiness attractive, so I wasn't really fond of Laine. If it was toned down a little then maybe it would have worked for me, but it was too much. The guy couldn't drive, cook, walk, talk on the phone...nothing.

Dev. Oh man, I LOVED Dev! Grammy was hilarious, too ;)

The climax
Spoiler I thought was going to be more, what's the word I am looking for?, ummm... of a battle? Yeah, I thought there was going to be a big long drag out fight. Instead I got Dev who basically tackled Victor and called it a day. Seriously?

Overall, it was good and I will continue to read the series.

It was cute, but the "cute and clumsy Omega" bit was played out a little too much to make it enjoyable for very long. For a quick and very light read, it was ok. I like my monsters to have at least some monstrous moments or feelings or something. So for me, the werewolves fell a bit flat.

I enjoyed the next book in the series, [b:Without Reservations With or Without Series Book 2|696820|Without Reservations (With or Without Series, Book 2)|J.L. Langley|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1177358031s/696820.jpg|683139], much better. The characters had more depth and emotion to them. But it does look as if With Love was originally part of an anthology, possibly, so that may account for its shallow waters.

I accidentally read the second book in this series first and I have to say that I liked it better. There was more to it. The author really has talent when she takes the time to expand. One thing that I found oddly creepy and curious was that Devlin is a name I have used for gaming avatars and as a pseudonymn before and Laine is totally the type of guy I dig. J.L., have you been reading my journal? LOL... Really though these books helps to melt my icy heart and believe in romance again.

1.5 stars rounded up to 2. I like fated/mated stories but unfortunately it takes a great author to make it work and for me this did not. I liked Laine he was cute but the story was rushed and seemed very amateur. I think this was part of an Anthology so I understand the shortness and its why I rounded up to 2.
