Diana Gabaldon's most recent Lord John novella, A Plague of Zombies, sends John Grey to Jamaica on a mission to squelch a possible rebellion against the slaves. While dealing with snakes, zombies and voodoo, he must also solve the mystery of the governor's murder. Not my favorite of the Lord John novels/novellas despite the interesting change of scenery but a fun read nonetheless.

A Plague of Zombies is a fun short featuring Lord John that ties in a lot of other things from the Outlander novels. It shows Lord John's first experience in Jamaica (though he returns to England before we see him back in the New World in Voyager) and we get a glimpse of Mrs. Abernathy at Rose Hall through John's eyes.

Perfectly fine, but probably not worth another read. I love John, and he's as witty and hilarious as ever here. It's also nice to shake things up and head to Jamaica. But beyond that, you wouldn't miss anything terribly important if you skipped this one. But hey. It's short, and I definitely wouldn't classify it as a waste of time!

Despite the interesting setting there's not much of a point to this short story. The metaphorical snake-burden he's bearing isn't actually a metaphor for anything and no plot points or characters are carried over from or developed for other stories in his series.It's always fun to read along with Lord John, but I prefer it when he's actually going somewhere, so to speak.

I always enjoy John Gray’s stories! I like the sense of what else is going on at the same time as Outlander.

I didn't mean to read two zombie books in one day. In fact I almost didn't read this one despite my love for Diana Gabaldon because of the title, and Girl With All The Gifts just happened to be the only unread thing on my kindle this morning when I finished this one.
That being said I really enjoyed this book. The writing was funny and fast-paced, and I like Lord John more every time I read about him. I think this is my very last unread Diana Gabaldon which makes me sad.
