really a 4.5/5 ⭐️ the first book i’ve read since finishing the realm of the elderlings where the writing is so good it sorta reminds me of robin hobb (but just not quite) and i love the characterization of the protagonist. kvothe is no fitz but yes this is a great book

Patrick Rothfuss is a talented writer, but I'm just not connecting with the story he's telling. I doubt I'll continue with the series but I'm glad I tried it.

Very solid fantasy - one of my only complaints is that it was a pretty long one so I found it hard to keep focussed. It's the first super long one I have read in a long time - and then the last third was the most interesting one as usual and the story didn't even finish there! But overall, very exciting escapism.
