It breaks my heart to give this book a 2 star.
The first book in this series was what got me into reading fantasy. Malum is my first shadow daddy. I was thrilled with the first book and spoke so highly of it. Second book was a 4 star for me. Not as catching as the first, but still very good and great character development. Third book is where we took a turn in my opinion. 3 star in my opinion. I struggled to really love the story as much as the first two. It seemed to drag on too much, but the ending was superb and it made a slight come back in my mind.
This book was a struggle the entire time reading it.
Eli had grown on me and I was sad at the ending of the third book for him. However, I was very taken aback by this whole book being about him. This book is basically just Eli bitching and fighting with himself about being prideful, and lacked a lot of other major points from the other books. The whole point of this book was to finally find Anna and there was barely anything in her POV. Just all Eli POV and I wasn't loving it. I feel like we got cheated out of a lot of the plots in the overall series. This should have been a novella in my opinion and followed Eli's journey, and there should have been another book following Mendax and Cal and finalizing their kingdom. We got nothing about Terani and how the kingdoms ended up the way they did. No story in regards of how they got back from Moirai. No follow up on Zef and Cal and their relationship and story. I feel like a lot was dropped in this book, and the fandom including myself will have issues with the ending. Very disappointed in how it ended, and wish she would have went in a different direction.

I enjoyed the first 3 books, but this one? I was so bored. I almost DNF’d it, but kept going. I’m glad Mendax & Caly got their happily ever after, but there just wasn’t enough of them. I thought this was their story! Instead, it was mostly about Eli and his constant whining.
