The Silver Chair

C.S. Lewis

I liked that Eustace was in this one again. Him being different at school really showed how much his first Narnia adventure impacted him. Turns out, being a dragon and all that really makes you re-evaluate the life you’ve been living up to that point.

To me, this one wasn’t as great as the others. The characters were nice, and I liked that I got to see even more of Narnia,
but the giants’ kingdom and Underland just didn’t do it for me
.

What I did like was that it showed Caspian as king.
The ending was sad nonetheless, even after seeing that Aslan gave him a ‘new life,’ so to speak.

I expected more Eustace, but Jill stole the spotlight in this adventure. Rilian’s story didn’t resonate much with me, and the Silver Chair itself was barely present, but the ending had a quiet, healing touch.
medium-paced

I think this was my least favorite of the Narnia books so far! I didn’t mind Jill as a character, but she didn’t add anything new or especially interesting. The book felt very divided and non-cohesive, and even the end felt cheesy to me with Aslan going out to defend the kids from the bullies. Yes Lewis did a good job with very atmospheric settings, but it all felt rather disjointed. I did think that the scene with the witch where she was trying to convince them that they did not know what they thought they knew had some interesting parallels to how our culture tries to gaslight us out of believing in God.
