This author was recommended on a virtual book club that I am a member of. I haven't read any works by this author, so I didn't know what to expect.
Although Olav is "one of the bad guys" I found myself liking him and that was down to the descriptive writing of the author. Olav was a fixer, hired by a local Drug Barron to do his killings, the thing with Olav is that he had a conscious and a heart and throughout the book, you read about his acts of kindness. I especially enjoyed reading how he planned and executed his kills.
With an undercurrent of a love story, this was a quick read as I wanted to know if he completed his contract and got the girl.
I enjoyed this book and will grab other books by this author

This is a short novel which doesn't feature Harry Hole, the protagonist in most of Nesbo's work. Those aren't necessarily negatives though - sometimes it's good to read a short, less complex novel with unfamiliar characters and an unfamiliar setting.
I liked this - the characters are more classically 'noir' and exist on the wrong side of the law, but they are interesting and well expressed.
Personally, I hope this is the beginning of a new series.

I was doubting whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars out of 5 but thankfully the ending was good enough for me to give it 4 stars.
It's definitely not the best Jo Nesbo's work and if you're familiar with the Snowman this book might be quite disappointing. Unfortunately, the plot till the very end is very much unsurprising and is full of cliches. Another thing that was annoying for me is that conversations in the book sounded like they were cut straight out of some blockbuster thriller - they lacked depth, they were full of cliches again, and were very predictable. Maybe that was the whole idea behind it to be so obvious to surprise the readers in the end, I don't know that but in any case, most of the book is not great in terms of plot and dialogues. I think Nesbo's writing shined in this book only when he described the surroundings but not the actual events happening to characters.

I read this book almost in one sitting. It's probably one of the darkest, bloodiest and absolutely fascinating books I've read in a long time. Olav is a contract killer or, in his words, a "fixer." He fixes people for a living. He's dyslexic but still reads although he says the words get mixed up in his head, and he often reimagines the story. He is a complex person who feels sorry for the family of people he has had to kill. He also watches over Maria, a former deaf and dumb prostitute who had been victimized not just by her pimp but by the people to whom he owed money. He is paid to fix the adulterous wife of a major crime boss in Oslo. What happens after is a spiral of death and blood on snow.

He’s not like a regular hit man—he’s a cool hit man! It is what it is, made better by the fact that Patti Smith narrates the audiobook.
