Quick, suspense, great piece of criminal fiction. Ressembles works of Dashiel Hammet and Elmore Leonard. Movie with Steven Seagal: quick moves, small talks, beautiful woman and professional hitman. All you need from crime fiction. Both thumbs up.
2 stars!
I’ve gotten out of my deep deep reading slump only to feel like I’ve wasted three hours of my life today.
Always wanted to try a Jo Nesbo book but this might have been the most unthrilling thriller I’ve ever read. I thought the set up and the premise were good but the book did nothing for me once “the job” aspect of the story started. Regretfully uninspired.
Disappointing start to Jo Nesbo, I might give him another shot one day but that day won’t be soon.

Beautiful, complex, engaging, with an ending that hit me right in the gut. There is so much in this small, seemingly straight-forward novella, and Olav is a wonderful, unlikely, highly-flawed villain/hero (vero? Hillain?) 5 stars!

Was ok for short read but not as good as his usual work for me
Thank you to friend Rachel Hall for recommending this story and sending me a copy to read. Thoroughly enjoyed. Quick, dark and humorous and would highly recommend.
More of a novella than a full novel, this story was OK, but not up the standard of his Harry Hole series. I was interested in the world of the Fixer, double-crossing drug dealers etc., but it just wasn't elaborated enough for me.
The idea that Olav is too incompetent and/or soft-hearted to do anything in the underworld other than kill people is amusing, but I can't see him being a successful assassin either, if that was the case.
The Fisherman was an interesting character, who I would liked ot have seen more of.
Good enough for me to track down the sequel & see if more develops.

I might have mentioned it before, but just in case I haven't, I have to inform you that I'm participating at a crime reading challenge by a Greek editor. But in order to read the book suggested by the editor, first I had to read Blood on Snow by Jo Nesbo.
It was good. The story line didn't really impress me. I could tell what was coming in various moments and that bothered me.
What I did like was the change at first person PoV. I didn't remember Jo using that PoV, so it was a good change.
What bothered me again, in this PoV, were the descriptions used. I found them contradicting to the first person narration.
From all the Jo Nesbo books I've read, even his first one that everyone says it was his worse, I think it's the one I enjoyed the least.

The worst audio narration I have ever heard.
I read this book on Kindle, and used the audio narration to read along with. The story itself was quite good but the narration was absolutely awful! The voice was a monotone drawling voice that had no intonations and expression whatsoever! I usually enjoy using this feature because it allows me to pop on some headphones and be fully immersed in the story, but it definitely didn’t happen with this story.
