I liked the characters quite a bit, and I found the fanfiction aspect really entertaining. But something fell flat for me here, especially in terms of tone. At one point the fantasy element of the book feels like it veers into the horror realm while everything else is much more light-hearted and maybe even overly wholesome? It might just be that the overlap with fantasy as a genre was just not my jam.

I particularly liked that while romance was a central point of the book, queer friendship was just as important.

This was really cute! The shenanigans of having a fictional character come to life were a lot of fun (and I actually would have liked a little more of it), but Ivy's friendship with Henry and crush on Mack were definitely the standouts of the book!
I loved seeing how Mack and Ivy repaired their relationship and how Ivy was able to grow as a person and admit all the stuff she did wrong in her friendship with Mack.
The little nods to fanfiction culture were also really cute too

Interesting premise. I fell like the beef wasn’t enough. I was not rooting for Ivy (mc) at first, she was such a bad friend in the past portion. Liked Mack, she was also not that good of a friend. I also felt like NPC more developped/ had more screen time than Mack. NPC dude was a fucking walking red flag! His only redeeming quality was that he wasn’t real.. also the fanfic written part were really average which was such a contrast. Also I felt like the lack of consent was not it at the end! I’m glad she realised how fucked that was.

While I'm usually a big fan of Sophie Gonzales and her books, this one just fell short for me. It honestly felt like a Disney Channel Original Movie. Ivy was also a very unlikeable character and came off as really immature compared to her friends. The ending left me feeling a bit uneasy, and I get that it was done for character growth, but such a supernatural element just felt out of place.
