I've really enjoyed Sophie Gonzales's books in the past, but this one just did not work for me. The chapters go back and forth from past to present and I think I would have appreciated the backstory more if it had been summarized all at once. Also, the magical realism aspect didn't seem either real enough or magical enough, again for me. I didn't really like any of the characters enough to care about their happy ending. The writing was really good, and the story definitely moved, but this one was not for me.

I love a good YA read to recommend to students, but this writing was meant for Wattpad instead of publication. It was fitting that the main character was a fan fiction author because this book read like fan fic.
