Solid 4 star book.
Very easy to read but the author's way with descriptions and words is so dreamlike and beautiful. I constantly related to the protagonist's actions and emotions. Character development is mainly focused on the lead, taking us through the many experiences of being a woman. From a child seeking approval of those around us, to finding your own voice and leading your own actions, as well as taking accountability of those actions.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Boring. And in the not so boring parts, I was confused. When I wasn’t confused I was weirded out or frustrated.

I couldn’t DNF because I had to see it through.

Absolutely incredible read. To span so much time and so many events is a great feat. I understand the direction it took halfway through to the conclusion was not made for me, and it was the best way to round out the character's arc, so don't take the fact this isn't 5 stars as a sign the story is flawed in any significant way. Glad I got to read it.

It was pretty difficult to get into this book, I probably got motivated around 50% through, and then really only finished because my Libby book was due.

The writing was a bit of an adjustment, but after getting used to it, I appreciated how scenes and feelings were conveyed. I do feel like it gave the reader a way to grow with Circe and live through her experiences with her. I liked how reflective Circe was of her surroundings and interactions with people.
I'm so so glad she got a happy ending (or we're led to believe she does).

This book was an opportunity to read about Greek mythology in a way I've never done before too. Unclear if I'll read Achilles though...

Circe is a twist on how women are represented in Greek mythology, giving them power and wit. Although it is a slower read, Circe interacts with a variety of characters and learns lessons from each of them, while imparting some wisdom of her own and trying to fix her past mistakes. She learns that she is capable of more than she and her family realize and sticks true to her moral compass even when it is contradictory to what godhood entails.

Madeline Miller has a great writing style and conveys relationships between characters in a way that I don't find in books often. I do think this is a slower read than The Song of Achilles, but both books are fantastic and I highly look forward to reading more from her in the future.

Where do I begin with Circe! This was a truly breathtaking book, I will say it again and again the way Madeline miller crafts her story’s and characters is beautiful. She found a way to take a well known character in Greek mythology and create an entire life story for her that is real, honest, and meaningful. Themes of feminism, motherhood, love, and independence are shown as Circe alone grows into her own person. I will continue reading Madeline millers books when she publishes them because I cannot get enough of her writing !!!

This is a very well written story of a lesser-known Greek mythological story.
